Your EASYpure RO was designed to operate auto-matically. The unit will automatically turn off whenthe tank is full and will restart when the tank emp-ties slightly. The unit will restart automatically for 5minutes every 3 hours 55 minutes of inactivity toflush the membrane during periods of non-use.This flush water will automatically run to the drain. Please ensure that the unit remains on — if youneed to de-energize the system for longer then 48hours contact Barnstead|Thermolyne customer ser-vice. If water is not drawn from the tank for 72hours, empty tank and refill with new RO waterbefore using.

Indicators(See Figure 11, page 25.)

Pressure GaugeOn initial start-up, the pressure gauge will brieflyindicate the feedwater pressure. Once the pumpstarts, the pressure gauge will indicate the pres-sure after the pump, which is the pressure on thereverse osmosis membranes. During normal opera-tion, this gauge should read 55-65 psi.

LED'sThere are five indicator lights on the EASYpure ROfront panel. Their significance is as follows:

Indicator Lights These lights alert you of theoperating status of the unit. If your attention is re-quired to correct a problem or maintain the system,it will be indicated on the display (periodicallycheck the panel to see if attention is required). Alisting of the various indicator lights and theirmeanings follow:

1. Reservoir full : Your EASYpure RO isequipped with a float switch that will de-energize the unit when the reservoir isfull. This light will illuminate, indicatingthe unit is in a standby mode. When thereservoir’s water level is lowered aboutfive inches, the unit will re-energize andthe light will turn off.

2. Low pressure : If the incoming waterpressure at the pump drops below 5psig, a switch will de-energize thepump. This switch senses the pressureafter the prefilter and before the pump. The EASYpure RO system will try torestart after it initially senses low pres-sure. If it senses low pressure the sec-ond time, it will switch the EASYpureRO off and will illuminate the low pres-sure light. Once the fault is corrected, the EASYpure RO must be manuallyrestarted. (Power down and power up).

3. Replace prefilter : The carbon used inthe extruded carbon cartridge has afinite life. The function of this cartridgeis to remove particulates and chlorine

from the feedwater. The "ReplacePrefilter" Indicator notifies youwhen the prefilter requires chang-ing. The frequency with which thislight will illuminate will vary depend-ing on the feedwater free chlorinelevel you have selected on theswitch panel on the inside rear leftside of the case. For proper opera-tion and protection of your mem-brane, it is important that you accu-rately select your feedwater freechlorine level on the switch panel.

4. Service membrane : If the percentrejection rate of the membrane fallsbelow 65% the light will illuminate, indicating membrane difficulty. Inmost cases replacement of themembranes is called for. Refer totroubleshooting guide for further in-formation. At times during operationthe light may illuminate. This maybe caused by feedwater variation orextended periods of non-use. Thisshould correct itself within a shorttime.

5. Replace membrane : Even underoptimal conditions, your EASYpureRO reverse osmosis membraneshave a finite life span. This indica-tor illuminates when your mem-branes have reached the end oftheir rated service life. Refer topage 32 for the proper replacementprocedure.

Caring For Your EASYpure RO With proper care, your EASYpure RO will giveyou consistently pure water. To ensure contin-ued good service, regularly perform the follow-ing procedures.

System SanitizationThe frequency of sanitizing depends on therate and amount of contamination buildup.

The membrane cartridges must be removed. The EASYpure RO can easily be completely

sanitized by utilizing the sanitization cartridge(Part Number D50245). To accomplish this, fol-low these step-by-step instructions:

1. Turn off the EASYpure RO. Turn offan EASYpure unit or NANOpure fedby the EASYpure RO. Depressurizethe EASYpure unit or NANOpure byopening the drawoff valve (auxiliarydrawoff on NANOpure) and allowingwater to flow until no more exits theunit. Disconnect the EASYpure unit orNANOpure from the power supply.

2. Close the inlet valve on theEASYpure unit. Disconnect from theEASYpure RO the tubing attachingthe EASYpure RO to the EASYpureunit. Disconnect this same tubingfrom the EASYpure unit. Direct oneend of the tubing to drain. Reattachthe other end to the EASYpure RO.Allow the tank to drain.

Normal Unit OperationBelow is a brief description of the normal automaticoperation of the EASYpure RO. If the unit does notoperate as described below, refer to the Trouble-shooting Guide.

When you activate the power switch, the follow-ing events will occur:

1. All LEDs light momentarily to indicate thatthey work.

2. After approximately 5 seconds, the auto-matic solenoid valves are energized. Theinlet valve opens, supplying the EASYpureRO with water. The flush valve alsoopens, diverting virtually all the water todrain.

3. After approximately 20 seconds, the pumpenergizes. The majority of the water pro-duced goes to drain.

4. 10 seconds after the pump energizes, thepressure switch begins monitoring theincoming water pressure.

5. After 3 minutes, the flush solenoid valvecloses and the EASYpure RO begins mak-ing product water and sending it to thestorage reservoir.

6. The unit begins to monitor membrane per-formance and the storage reservoir floatsbegin to monitor tank levels 5 secondsafter the flush solenoid valve closes.During operation, the storage reservoirfloats will: 1) switch the EASYpure RO intostandby mode (pump off) when the stor-age reservoir is full, 2) switch theEASYpure RO back into water productionmode (pump on) when the reservoir level

drops approximately five inches, and 3)switch off any EASYpure unit connected tothe EASYpure RO when the water level inthe EASYpure RO's storage reservoir istoo low to ensure an adequate water sup-ply to the other EASYpure unit (thisrequires the pump interlock cord to beinstalled).

7. The microprocessor tracks operating timeand at pre-selected intervals illuminatesthe “replace filter” light, signifying that thecarbon cartridge should be replaced.

8. When the reservoir is full and theEASYpure RO is in standby mode, a clockis activated which energizes theEASYpure RO for five minutes every threehours and fifty-five minutes. This ensuresthat water will not stagnate on the mem-brane surface. The majority of the waterproduced during this five-minute cycle willdivert to the drain.
