¶ Please sit or kneel for the Introit (the Lent Prose) Repeat the Response after the Cantor:

¶ Remain standing for the Penitential Rite

Your love gives us life from the moment of conception. We fail to live as your children.

You call us to do good. We seek our own good.

You hear us when we cry for help. We ignore the cries of others.

All power is given in Jesus' name, In earth and heaven in Jesus' name, And in Jesus' name I come to you To share his power as he told me to.

He said: 'Freely, freely you have received; Freely, freely give. Go in my name and because you believe, Others will know that I live.'

For she alone, of all on earth, Received the privilege to bear

And bring God's Son, our Lord, to birth.

We pray that God's own mother-love

Will always hold in gentleness

All children who have never known

A mother's love or tenderness.

For mothers, who with broken hearts

Are daily faced with grief and loss, We pray the Son of God will give

His deepest comfort from the cross.

We trust the mother-love of God, Who bears for us in Mary's boy, Our pain and sorrow, to secure

Our everlasting praise and joy.

Words: adapted from a text by Alan Gaunt (b.1935) Tune Fulda: from William Gardiner’s Sacred Melodies (1815)

¶ Remain standing for the Dismissal

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.

¶ Remain standing for the Final Hymn

God forgave my sin in Jesus' name, I've been born again in Jesus' name, And in Jesus' name I come to you To share his love as he told me to.

He said: 'Freely, freely you have received; Freely, freely give. Go in my name and because you believe, Others will know that I live.'

May the Father of all mercies cleanse us from our sins, and restore us in his image to the praise and glory of his name, through Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen.

¶ Remain standing for the Collect

The Priest introduces a period of silent prayer with the words Let us pray.

Merciful Lord, absolve your people from their offences, that through your bountiful goodness we may all be delivered from the chains of those sins which by our frailty we have committed; grant this, heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Response and Chant: MHE

Happy the man whose offence is forgiven, whose sin is remitted. O happy the man to whom the Lord imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no guile. (Response)

But now I have acknowledged my sins, my guilt I did not hide. I said: 'I will confess my offence to the Lord.' And you, Lord, have forgiven the guilt of my sin. (Response)

So let every good man pray to you in the time of need. The floods of water may reach high but him they shall not reach. You are my hiding place, O Lord, you save me from distress. You surround me with cries of deliverance. (Response)

John Redford (c.1500—1547).

Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say, rejoice. Let your softness be known unto all men: the Lord is e’en at hand. Be careful for nothing, but in all prayer and supplication let youjr petitions be manifest unto God with giving of thanks. And the peace of God (which passeth all understanding) keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesu. Amen.

¶ Please join in singing the Communion Hymn

I come with joy, a child of God, Forgiven, loved, and free,

The life of Jesus to recall, In love laid down for me.

I come with Christians far and near To find, as all are fed,

The new community of love In Christ's communion bread.

As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, Each proud division ends.

The love that made us makes us one, And strangers now are friends.

The spirit of the risen Christ, Unseen, but ever near,

Is in such friendship better known: Alive among us here.

Together met, together bound, By all that God has done,

We'll go with joy, to give the world, The love that makes us one.

Words: Brian Arthur Wren (b.1936) Tune St Botolph: Gordon Slater (1896—1979)

Cantor: I will leave this place and go to my father and say: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.’ All: Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.

¶ Remain standing for the Gospel Reading (Luke 15: 1–3,11b–32)

The Lord be with you and also with you.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord.

At the end of the Gospel the reader says: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Let us declare our faith in God.

We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high.

We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

¶ The Liturgy of the Sacrament

Through the prophet Isaiah, God says, 'As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.' The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

¶ Remain standing for the Offertory Hymn

During the following hymn, a collection is taken for the Church.

Praise to you, O Christ our Saviour, Word of the Father, calling us to life; Son of God who leads us to freedom: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

You are the word who calls us out of darkness, You are the word who leads us into life, You are the word who brings us through the desert: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

` You are the one whom prophets hoped and longed for, You are the one who speaks to us today, You are the one who leads us to our future: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Distribution of the Sacrament

is welcome to receive communion at this service. Alternatively you may wish to come for a blessing: please keep your hands down and

your head bowed to indicate that this is your preference.

Communion Motet

The choir sings the motet Rejoice in the Lord alway. The text, Philippians 4: 4–7, is from the Great Bible of 1539.

The anonymous music was formerly attributed to

Page 9: EASTER SERVIE DETAILS TO GO · Sacred Heart. The dates and venues for the remaining Fridays of Lent are as follows: and of the Holy Spirit. 29 March at All Saints; 5 April at Sacred

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

¶ Remain standing for the Breaking of the Bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

¶ Remain standing for the Invitation to Communion

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

¶ Please sit or kneel for the Lamb of God

While the Altar Party receives the Sacrament, the choir leads the singing of the ‘Agnus Dei’ (Lamb of God). Please join in singing:

You are the Word who calls us to be servants; You are the Word whose only law is love; You are the Word made flesh, who lives among us: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

You are the word who binds us and unites us, You are the word who calls us to be one, You are the word who teaches us forgiveness: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Words and Music: Bernadette Farrell (b.1957)

¶ Remain standing for the Prayer Over the Gifts

We place before you with joy these offerings, which bring eternal remedy, O Lord, praying that we may both faithfully revere them and present them to you, as is fitting, for the salvation of all the world. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

¶ Remain standing throughout the Eucharistic Prayer (G)

The Lord is here. His spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, it is our duty and our joy, at all times and in all places to give you hanks and praise, holy Father, heavenly King, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And now we give you thanks because you give us the spirit of discipline, that we may triumph over evil and grow in grace, as we prepare to celebrate the paschal mystery with mind and heart renewed.

Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and singing:

Page 10: EASTER SERVIE DETAILS TO GO · Sacred Heart. The dates and venues for the remaining Fridays of Lent are as follows: and of the Holy Spirit. 29 March at All Saints; 5 April at Sacred

All glory be to you, our heavenly Father who, in your tender mercy, gave your only Son our Saviour Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption; who made there by his one oblation of himself once offered a full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; he instituted, and in his holy gospel commanded us to continue, a perpetual memory of his precious death until he comes again. Hear us, merciful Father, we humbly pray, and grant that, by the power of your Holy Spirit, we receiving these gifts of your creation, this bread and this wine, according to your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

Great is the mystery of faith

Therefore, Lord and heavenly Father, in remembrance of the precious death and passion, the mighty resurrection and glorious ascension of your dear Son Jesus Christ, we offer you through him this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith in his blood, we and all your Church may receive forgiveness of our sins and all other benefits of his passion.

Although we are unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer you any sacrifice, yet we pray that you will accept this the duty and service that we owe. Do not weigh our merits, but pardon our offences, and fill us all who share in this holy communion with your grace and heavenly blessing; through Jesus Christ our Lord,

by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.

Amen.

¶ Remain standing for the Lord’s Prayer

Believing the promises of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
