Easter Rejoicing On a beautiful spring day, we celebrated the
miracle of new life and life eternal through the
Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ.
The morning began with a sunrise service
combined with the members of St. Peter’s
Lutheran, we then had an 8 a.m. Communion
service, and it was nice to see our sanctuary filled
for our 10 a.m. family service.
A special thank you to Kat Bowman, Diane Dunn,
Pete Warner, Mackenzie Wookey and the Senior
Choir for providing the most beautiful music in celebration of Christ’s resurrection! Thank you to the
Sewing Circle for a delicious time of fellowship during Social Hour after 10 a.m. worship.
The church season of Easter lasts 50 days, as we continue to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus
Christ. Rejoice! He is risen indeed!
Mark your calendars for Sunday,
May 5th!
See page 2 for the full article and
more information on this special day
here at St. Peter’s!
Heifer Project Gift Fair
Its Heifer Project time! Each spring St Peter’s Pikeland United Church of Christ holds a fair in support of Heifer Project International. This year the Fair will be held Sunday May 5, 2019.
Solving the problem of world hunger is a heartfelt vision of many people but the sheer magnitude of the problem has overwhelmed agencies.
Heifer Project International (HPI), is the outgrowth of one man with a vision and a practical method of implementa-tion that did not require inordinate financial underwriting. After serving as a relief worker in the Spanish Civil War in 1936 Dan West observed that there was no way to bring enough food to the children of Spain fast enough to
address the depravation that surrounded him daily. Mr West’s concept was to bring cows to Spain to produce milk and to give a cow to a family with the stipulation that its offspring must be given to another family who would in turn give a calf to yet another family! And so on and so on!
HPI started in 1942 with the first shipment of heifers delivered to Puerto Rico in 1944.
Animals are delivered to communities all around the globe. The species are selected to serve the environment and the needs of the community. In Honduras beekeeping has brought multiple benefits to a community. The bees pollinate crops and other flower-ing plants. They produce honey which is sold to the local population. In addition sub industries have emerged that include a wax producing factory, hive manufacturing and honey processing factories all from one gift of a beehive.
These farmers build human bridges between communities by passing knowledge, cour-age and dignity. It is a success story from our local generosity and kindness. You can participate by supporting the Heifer Project Fair at St Peter’s Pikeland United Church of Christ May 5, 2019. Your contributions fight hunger and poverty around the world and changes peoples lives.
The Fair is held right after the 10 AM Sunday service May 5 on the church grounds. Rain or Shine. The theme of Heifer Project is the ARK and so Noah and his friends will be in at the fair in support of Heifer. Noah says come on down!
There will be baked goods, food, games for the kids, face painting, and fun stuff to buy and of course the main part of event The Living Gift Market!
The Living Gift Market is a chance to change the lives of people. The gifts you can purchase include food and income producing animals like goats, bees, chicks and heifers. The animals go to hungry, rural families around the world
including the USA who are working to improve their lives. Heifer Project also provides the training in care of the animals and in enhancing the environment. The gifts are matched to each local environment.
Each Market gift gives over and over. Your gift of an animal and training to an impoverished family impacts the en-tire rural community. That family shares its knowledge and the animal’s first offspring with another family. And that family shares. And the next and the next! In all this you find the gift of peace, the gift of time and the gift of
gratitude.
So gather up the family and invite your friends. It is a fun time and a great cause, helping people to help themselves!

Celebrating our Women
Ladies Tea 2019
On Saturday, April 6th, the ladies of the church enjoyed an afternoon of tea, great company and good conversation hosted by the Board of Christian Education. Pas-
tor Beth spoke on how we can better our skills in listening to God. Sometimes, this can take great practice and great patience.
The men of the church helped by serving at this event.

Book Club
Our next meeting will be Wednes-
day, May 15 at the home of Kathleen
Wachsmuth at 6:30 pm. We are
reading The Curious Charms of
Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick.
It’s a lovely, uplifting story of a
widower who finds a new lease on
life at the most unexpected time.
If you have any questions or want to be included on
the evite list, please contact Diane Dunn at
Quilting Recognition
On Sunday, March 31st, we remembered beloved
names of quilters of St. Peter’s, both past and
present. March was National Quilting Month, and
St. Peter’s has a long legacy of quilting.
We enjoyed a special visit from Paul and Barbara
Hetrich. They brought with them the quilt that was
hand sewn by many women of our church as a gift
for Paul’s retirement. Thank you to Charlotte
Wookey for coordinating this special day, from the
altar flowers to the quilting display at social hour.
Sewing Circle
The Sewing Circle ladies have fun in doing more
than just sew. You don’t have to know how to sew
to be a part of this amazing group.
Palm Sunday
On Sunday, April 14th, St. Peter’s was full of
activity as we celebrated Palm Sunday.
The Habitat for Humanity Mission team, led by
the Wookey family, hosted another delicious
Fisherman’s Breakfast before worship.
The worship service celebrated the entrance of
Jesus into Jerusalem with the waving of palms.
After worship, we enjoyed an egg-citing Easter
Egg hunt thanks to Joyce Rosen and her wonderful
grandchildren. (See more pics on pg. 8)

Seminary Sunday
On Sunday, March 31st, we welcomed Rev. Dr.
Call from Lancaster Theological Seminary. Her
sermon spoke on reconciliation in many areas
of our lives. Dr. Rev. Call also brought
greetings and news from the Seminary to the
members of St. Peter’s. A special offering was
received to help support scholarships at the
Seminary.
Organist Recognition
On Sunday, June 2nd, we will gratefully
recognize all of the contributions of our three
organists. Through the years, we have been
blessed to have three talented organists here
at St. Peter’s.
Pastor Beth’s Last Day
Sunday, April 28th was
Pastor Beth’s last day with
us here at St. Peter’s. We
celebrated her work with a
cake at Social Hour. Having
started last August, Pastor
Beth has now fulfilled her
seminary requirement for
field education. We wish
her well as she continues
her journey toward ordained
ministry.
Thank you from Pastor Beth
To my dear St. Peter’s family,
I would like to thank everyone who gave me cards
and gifts on my last day with you on April 28. The
delicious cakes (two of them!) the lovely and
thoughtful hand written notes, the beautiful
jewelry from the Christian Ed team, and the
gorgeous cross and flowers from the congregation
are things I will always treasure and remember you
by.
I also want to publicly acknowledge everyone who
came to the Gospel of Mark bible study, whether it
was regularly or just once. You all helped me to
learn to lead and the discussions were so
meaningful. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I
did. I also failed to adequately thank Pastor Doug
for his leadership, mentoring, kindness and
compassion in his ministry. You are all blessed to
have him. Thank you all again for your help and
kindness, and many blessings to you!!
Love in Christ,
Pastor Beth

Confirmation Sunday
On Sunday, May 19th, we
will celebrate the
confirmation of Reagan
Basile, Chloe Dunn, Garett
Harlow and Tate Yeakle.
On that day, these four
confirmands will reaffirm baptism vows said for
them when infants, and receive Holy Communion
together. Please come and join them on this special
day, as they celebrate the completion of their year of
study.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Monthly Communion in May
will not be on the first Sunday, but will be on
Confirmation Sunday, May 19th.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day started as an event to honor Union
soldiers who had died during the American Civil
War. It was inspired by the way people in the
Southern states honored their dead. After World
War I, it was extended to include all men and
women who died in any war or military action.
Memorial Day was originally known as
Decoration Day. The current name for this day
did not come into use until after World War II.
Decoration Day and then Memorial Day used to
be held on May 30, regardless of the day of the
week, on which it fell. In 1968, the Uniform
Holidays Bill was passed as part of a move to use
federal holidays to create three-day weekends.
This meant that that, from 1971, Memorial Day
holiday has been officially observed on the last
Monday in May.
Mother’s Day– May 12

7 Minutes with God -Julie Beatty
God created family and gave mothers a special purpose, destiny, and calling. We are all different and we may struggle, fail at times, but God fills in the gaps where we are weak... if we let Him. When we pray and trust God and surrender to his will, we are blessed and so is our family. For all of you that are not mothers, you absolutely touch many lives by praying for the mom you know and walking along side them and sharing your faith. Proverbs 31:25-30 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She watches over the ways of her house-hold, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. I HAVE A MOTHER WHO PRAYED (ANONYMOUS)
I have a mother who prayed for me, Pleaded with the Lord every day for me. Oh what a difference it made in me- That I have a mother who prayed.
Some have kings in their heritage, Men to whom honor was paid. My noble ancestry was that I had a mother who prayed.
Some boast of worldly success And trust in the riches they’ve made. But this was my surest asset- I have a mother who prayed.
My Mother’s prayers cannot save me; Only my own confession can avail. But my mother introduced me to Jesus, The one who can never fail.
I have a mother who prayed for me, Pleaded with the Lord every day for me. Oh, what a difference it made in me That I have a mother who prayed. I encourage you to pray for your children and families knowing God hears your prayers and is working in and through you. Prayer is powerful! I have a mother who prayed for me every day and still does. She lives out her faith and taught me about Jesus, and I am so grateful. I pray that we all call on God for help in our relationships, to give us wisdom, and strength where we are weak. Pray for your children, pray with your children, and teach them about Jesus. I know it makes a difference. It is never too late to live out your faith and pray! God bless you! He is not poor who has had a godly mother. Abraham Lincoln

Calling all passengers ready to “Travel God’s World”!
Join us as we embark on another exciting journey during our weeklong VBS here at St. Peter’s.
We will once again be traveling to a different place each day learning about God’s world and
God’s people and what their lives are like in different places.
This year, we will travel to Austria, Puerto Rico, Mongolia, Chile and Morocco.
We will welcome the return of our mixed up traveler, Mr. Goofendoofer! Each morning we
will help guide this mixed up traveler through his travels, while getting a giggle out of his con-
fusion! After we make sure Mr. Goofendoofer gets on the correct flight, we will head to our
classrooms to learn about our destination of the day. After our lesson, we move on to arts and
crafts, physical activity, music and snack.
Cost is $25 per child
