CrEatErESUrrECtION BUttErFLy: Kids create a Resurrection Butterfly that they can wear

as they fly to share the good news: Jesus is alive!Get readyBefore trucks delivered packages, the Pony Express did. Kids take turns acting out being the pony, the delivery person, and the recipient of the package, such as a crayon box, tissue box, or large envelope.

• What is fun about delivering the package?

• What is the best part of receiving the package?

• What is the best thing you’ve ever gotten in the mail?

• What is the most exciting message you’ve ever delivered?

Invite kids to suggest a brief note to include in the package about Easter Day, when we celebrate good news about Jesus. Print “HE IS RISEN!” or draw an empty cross.

Introduce the Characters• After Jesus dies, the disciples hide. They are sad and

scared that they will be arrested and punished, too.

• Mary, Jesus’ friend, is very sad when he dies.

• Peter is especially excited to hear Jesus is alive. He said he didn’t know Jesus when Jesus was arrested.

• Jesus told them he would rise in 3 days, but they don’t understand that how that could be possible.

Watch for the big surprise Jesus has

for all of his friends.

If time permits, watch it again!

Play the Easter day Video

talk about the Easter day Video• What was surprising about who Mary found at the

tomb?

• I wonder why God chose Mary to tell the good news that Jesus was alive.

• What surprised you about how the disciples reacted at first? I wonder why they weren’t excited right away.

• What changed about the disciples when they believed what Mary told them?

• Why did it matter to the disciples that Jesus was alive again? Why does it matter to us?

Open the Holy Moly Bible StorybookRead The Best News on pages 25-32.

Look for the colorful butterfly as you read the story.

• Why is a butterfly a symbol of Easter?

• Have you seen a caterpillar turn into a butterfly?

The women found an empty tomb.

• Why do you think they were surprised to find it empty?

• Mary ran fast to tell the good news. When do you like to run fast?

• How does it feel to know that Jesus is alive? Who will you tell and how will you celebrate?

Curl 2 chenille craft stems so they look like butterfly antennae. tape them behind each eye on the

headband.

21 Holy Moly!Give kids time to imagine and help them reflect.

• How would you have felt if you were the first person to find out that Jesus was alive?

• What do you think happened next in the story, after Peter and the disciples discovered that Mary was right?

• What colors will you use on your butterfly wings to show the happy news that Jesus is alive?

• Which character in the video made you feel happiest? Why?

Color and cut out the butterfly wings and headband.

Fold back the tabs on the butterfly wings along the fold lines.

3

tape the colored tabs to their corresponding colors on the headband. tape both sides for security.

4
