www.visitherefordshire.co.uk HEREFORDSHIRE & THE WYE VALLEY A little bit hidden, a little bit unknown, come and be intrigued... C9 East With over 58% of the Malvern Hills in Herefordshire it’s a great place with a sense of space. With 3,000 acres of open countryside to tempt you, pull on your walking boots and escape to the hills. Known for its hop growing, the market town of Bromyard has its own character and history with just the right degree of bustle. Cider, of course, remains one of our most important products. Ledbury is in the heart of cider and perry bounteous orchards which have provided the raw materials for this drink for centuries. If retail therapy is your ‘bag’, Ledbury has a great range of small independent shops from vintage boutiques to stylish antiques to browse at your leisure, followed by some local refreshment – cider or locally produced beer of course! West Silence is golden, and so too is the Golden Valley; the broad, fertile vale that separates Herefordshire from the Welsh hills. Explore Offa’s offer along the Dyke, search out gardens and vistas and soak up the atmosphere in traditional local inns. If you’re looking to burn off some energy try scrambling, climbing or mountain biking, or if you prefer something a little more leisurely try walking with a Llama, a great experience for all the family. South & The Forest of Dean There is nowhere better to view and enjoy the River Wye than from this part of the county. Follow in auspicious footsteps (Wordsworth and JMW Turner) from Ross to Symonds Yat as it meanders its way below Goodrich Castle, one of the most complete medieval castles in Britain and with exhilarating views over the Wye Valley. Join in or spectate, whilst sampling some of the local brew of course, with the canoeists, rafters, rowers and fishermen. Why not take the rope ferry at Symonds Yat and explore the footpaths of The Forest of Dean, enjoy an underground or treetop adventure – or if this all sounds too much then relax aboard a cruise boat in Symonds Yat as it takes you on a river trip. The story of drinking water brought to life in a beautiful setting by the RiverWye. Hereford’s unique museum tells the story of water supplies yesterdayand today. Includes an exhibition of Hereford’s secret role in WW2.Many historic pumping engines are shown working regularly. The massivetriple-expansion steam engine is the oldest still working in Britain, two floorshigh and quite awesome in operation. The story of the water closet is just one part of the social history of water supplies on display. An audio panorama explains how drinking water is treated today and how it reaches our taps.

WATER PARK Especially for children. This makes the Museum a children’sparadise where they can operate pumps, lift water from a well and play the part of a donkey pushing a capstan pump. All the old favourites too including the Archimedes’ screw and frog trail.

The modern Visitor Centre has gifts, books and a delicious cuppa. The only working museum in Herefordshire. More here than you can imagine. One visitor said, ‘An absolute jewel of a museum’.

CentralHow charming Hereford is! Despite its status as a city, Herefordstill retains a distinctly unhurried pace of life. At its historic heartare the wide open spaces of High Town, its traditional marketplacewhere farmers, garden, antique and general markets are still held. From here a narrow street lined with cafes and speciality shopsleads to the cathedral and the dazzling medieval map of the world– the Mappa Mundi.

The traditional Hereford Wednesday cattle market has moved to a brand spanking new premises just outside the city, providingthe opportunity to sensitively develop a modern shopping venuewith a range of eateries and a cinema complex – all within easystrolling distance of the traditional historic quarter.

NorthHad enough of soulless chrome and glass architecture or razor-sharp angles? North Herefordshire’s rolling landscape is dotted with half-timberedstriking buildings from Tudor times making the unique Black & White Villages amongst some of the most attractive in England.

Follow the 40 mile circular trail starting in the heart of the Marches, through to the English/Welsh border, which introduces visitors to windinglanes and ancient buildings displaying their historical links though to the middle ages. Start the trail at Leominster and take a break at the traditional market town of Kington where you will find 6000 local history artefacts and photographs at Museum. If it’s action on the land you’re looking for then this is the best part of the county for you, with go-karting, assault course and zip wire.
