Over the last few weeks, I was thinking about what I’d say as we begin getting back to a normal schedule here at church. Printing the newsletter is something that helps us know things are getting back to a bit more “normal”. I always think of the word “normalcy” created by President Warren Harding. I know why he was adamant about normalcy. America had just been through the greatest war in world history. Then the “Spanish Influenza” struck in 1918 and then Prohibition was begun, and then “The Roaring 20’s” I believe his desire was for an American where it was just peaceful and tranquil like the years leading up to World War I. Nothing would be farther from the truth. Normalcy would happen in a totally different way than everyone envisioned.

In Matthew 24 here is what happened with Jesus and the disciples. Jesus left the temple area and was going on His way when His disciples came up to Him to call His attention to the [magnificent and massive] [a]buildings of the temple. 2 And He said to them, “Do you see all these things? I assure you and most solemnly say to you, not one stone here will be left on another, which will not be torn down.” Human nature wants things to stay the same. Day after day and year after year we want things to remain the same. Then when something massive happens and changes all that, we struggle to find our way back, “to the way things were”. For the disciples, the temple would be gone, Jerusalem too. The Roman army would level the city and nothing would be left. If was impossible for them to envision there not being a temple, not being a Jerusalem, not being Judea. It all happened in 70 AD. Jesus was reminding them that as much as we want the “same” that in reality, in real life, “change” is a constant.

You hear me often say how glad I am to be a Christian. I truly am. God made this statement in Malachi 3:6. “I the Lord do not change”. That gives me comfort to know in this ever-changing world God is who He is. He never ever changes. Hebrews 13:8; Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. That means, His love for us never changes, His grace never changes, His mercy never changes, His righteousness never changes. God wants us to know he can be counted on to be who He is every single day.

As we go through these challenging times, I draw deep comfort for knowing that God’s power never changes, He’s still in charge. He is the same in this ever-changing world. That gives us peace and hope. We have peace because we know God will ultimately triumph and we have hope because we know one day we have our eternal home in heaven.

I hope during these trying times it has been a time of drawing closer to the unchanging God. I hope you have sensed His peace and the hope that comes from Him. 2

25 Good Things to Think About What we are going through at this time in our lives—COVID-19 and all the things we hear through

the news media, let’s look at some positive things to think about. I found an article from Dr. Carol Minis-

tries, that states we can choose our thoughts. She listed somethings to think about. Look through this list and

choose some to incorporate into your daily thought process. Begin each day focusing on something positive.

And do the same before bed at night.

I challenge you to do this. Take a piece of paper and note the ones that you choose and tell a bit about

how they made you feel and how it may have brightened your day. We would love to post those in the next

newsletter. They will all be anonymous.

1. Someone who you care about

2. Some who cares about you

3. A challenge you overcame

4. A goal you have achieved

5. Some way in which God has blessed you

6. Something artistic you think is beautiful

7. An inspiring or beautiful place in nature

8. An accomplishment you can be proud of

9. Something you have learned

10. Someone you have helped

11. The chop you have in knowing Jesus

12. Someone who you would like to emulate (be more like)

13. What you believe to be most important in life

14. A character trait you would like to develop

15. Something you would love to do

16. How you life is different because of Jesus

17. Some way in which you have grown or matured

18. A time when you felt loved

19. Something you DO have a choice about

20. A time you felt God was close to you

21. A story of someone who overcame big challenges

22. A piece of music that lifts your spirits

23. A Scripture you find meaningful

5

Facts and Other Things to Ponder

1. What if my dog only brings back the ball because he thinks I like throwing it

2. Which letter is silent in the word ‘scent’, the S or the C

3. Why is the letter w, in English, called double u, not double v

4. Every time you clean something you make something else dirty

5. The word ‘swims’ upside-down is still ‘swims’

6. 100 years ago everybody owned a horse and only the rick had cars. Now it’s the other way around.

7. If you replace ‘W’ with ‘T’ in ‘What, Where and When’, you get the answers to each of them.

8. Many animals probably need glasses, but nobody knows it

9. If you rip a hole in a net, there are actually fewer holes in it than before

10. Why is it that no matter what color of bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white

11. Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized

12. Why is it that no plastic garbage bag will open from the end you first try

13. How do those dead bugs get into hose closed light fixtures

14. Considering all the lint you get in your dryer, if you kept drying your clothes would they eventually just disappear

15. If at first you don’t succeed, shouldn’t you try doing it like your wife told you to do it in the first place

16. If something ’goes without saying’ why do people still say it

17. I have seen more of the surface of the Moon with my own eyes than I have of Earth

18. It’s not fair that coffee stains your teeth brown, but milk doesn’t stain them white

19. Bean bags are just boneless sofas

20. Maybe dogs bring home sticks because that was bred into them over millennia of humans needing wood for fires

9 Things You Didn’t Know or Thought About

1. At least 5 people in this world love you so much they would die for you

2. At least 15 people in the world love you in some way

3. If you haven’t done anything to someone who hate you, it’s because they want to be like you

4. Your smile can bring happiness to even a stranger

5. You mean the world to someone

6. If it wasn't for you, someone may not be living

7. Someone you don’t know yet, is going to love you

The Birth Order Book: Why You Are the Way You Are By Dr. Kevin Leman — The Lonely Only- Compiled by Dr. Betty Wood

Dr. Kevin Leman is an outspoken Christian and research he has done here is written from a Christian perspective.

How can two or three kids come from the same parents, live in the same house, and become so different? Birth

order helps answer this question as long as you are aware of the variables affecting each family situation. The variables

affecting the “family constellation”, according to Dr. Leman, include spacing (the number of years between children),

the sex of each child, physical differences or disabilities, the birth order position of the parents, any blending of two or

more families due to death or divorce, and finally, the relationship between the parents.

The characteristics of an only child include

The key question for this birth order child is “Why am I the only child?”.

If parents wanted more children but could only have one, be aware that all the energy and attention that had been

intended for several got poured into one. He or she may have become very pampered and spoiled. They have a lifelong

problem with self-centeredness because it is hard to shake the basic impression they got from their earliest recollections

of Mom and Dad.

The parents may have planned for only one and stuck by their plan. The only may be the result of a very struc-

tured, tightly disciplined upbringing which always demanded that you be “a little adult.” Only children often report nev-

er having a childhood. They are often SUPERreliable and SUPERconscientious. They often have an inner rebellion and

they may feel inferior. Often, they must prove themselves again and again. They are “discouraged perfectionist.”

Famous Onlies There has yet to be an only born President.

There are tips for only children to make their birth order work for them.

• Be ruthless with yourself in regard to making too many commitments and expecting too much of yourself. It is all

too easy to reach the point where every day is a rat race, with no end in sight.

• Is time and space for yourself really built into your schedule? Most only children are the type who need some time

for themselves. Make sure it happens.

• As a rule, only children get along better with people much older or much younger than themselves. You can't con-

trol the ages of everyone you work with or deal with, but in some cases, you can try to arrange experiences with peo-

ple who are older or younger.

• Only children are often labeled selfish and self-centered because they never had to learn to share with brothers and

sisters. Take some honest inventory of your own life. How self-centered do you act around your spouse, friends, or

fellow workers? What specific things can you do to put others first, help others more, and be less critical of others?

In the next article, we will find out the characteristics that Dr. Leman found in a typical middle child.
