President’s Corner
Happy Spring!!
I have always heard that “April showers bring May flowers”, but that
causes me to wonder what March snow storms bring? Well, I have come
up with an answer—time to work on all those “PHD's”! Because the snow
and ice have kept my inside more, I have found time to “rearrange” my
sewing room. (That is code speak for tearing up my space looking for
things I can't find! And finding those many projects that are started but
not finished. Then deciding if I am really going to finish them!) So YES,
I have found time to sew. I was inspired at our last meeting. Even
though we didn't have a “program” it was fun to catch up with my quilt-
ing friends and speak “material” again. I was impressed with all the
many projects members were accomplishing and challenged to get to
work on mine. As I was “rearranging “ my sewing room, I started to
think about my contributions too the quilt show. I love the log cabin pat-
tern and am trying to decide how I can incorporate it with the “home is
where your heat is” theme. Also, I have found a flower fabric pro-
ject that I have decided to finish. Spring is coming! I am mandating it
at my house. So watch out and ask my about my
new finished projects that are just making me hap-
py. What project is doing that for you? Let's com-
pare!!
Now, one, two, three, SEW!!!

Jodi’s Jottings—Membership and More…
I thank Diana Fairchild for taking care of membership duties for me at the February guild meeting. I have been dealing with the “winter crud” and you really would not have wanted me to be in your presence—and I really didn’t feel like it. I don’t have an updated membership number but will have it by the time you read this. I’ll give you the numbers at the March guild meeting.
Thank you to Suzanne Mullins for the funny. (I had to Google Area 51!!)
PHDs: I will have buttons, ribbons, and safety pins at the March guild meeting for those of you who did not get them in February. I hope to have even more to give away this month. Quilt Show Judging: Refer to the last newsletter for information. We will discuss whatever you wish to dis-cuss at the meeting. I will do my best to answer your questions. If you have questions, email me at [email protected] or give me a call at 319.361.6004.

EIHQ received the following email from The Warm and Natural Company: Dear Quilters,
Thank you for 30 years of loyalty to Warm Company Battings and Fusible Webs. You’ve always been there for us and we’ve always enjoyed being a small part of your charitable projects, quilt shows and raffles. Ef-fective Immediately – The Warm Company is no longer selling Warm products to JoAnn Fabric and Craft stores or Joann.com. All of your favorite Warm Batting and Fusibles are still readily available at local quilt shops, Walmart Stores and Walmart.com, Hobby Lobby Stores and Hobbylobby.com as well as several online suppliers including Amazon.com. If your guild has a business license or is a registered 501(c), you may be able to purchase directly from The Warm Company. Please email or call us at 1-800-234-9276 or email us [email protected] if you have any difficulty finding any Warm products. Sincerely, Jim Chumbley, President
Reminder: Please continue to bring your used medi-
cine bottles to the guild meetings. These bottles will be
filled with sewing supplies for women in Haiti. This
collection will continue until we have enough bottles.
Thank you for your donations.

MARCH 25 MEETING
2019 PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS…. Bookmarks will be available for 2019 at the March
meeting. Deb Thomas will be at the workshop registration table; stop by to see her to sign up for
classes beginning in February, as well as the Jamie Wallen workshops being held during the quilt
show in September. Class lists and registration forms are in the newsletter.
SIGN IN TABLE AT GUILD MEETINGS…. Do you love to meet new people? We are looking
for someone to sit at the sign in table to welcome visitors and new members. You could choose the
morning or evening meeting. Please contact Megan Bracy if you are interested in helping
out. [email protected]
FAT QUARTER LOTTERY…. Another great way to get involved and add to your stash (yes, we
all need to add to our stash) is to participate in the monthly morning and evening fat quarter lottery.
Bring one or several fat quarters (quilt shop quality fabric) that pertain to the monthly theme and your
name will be entered to win a stack of fat quarters. The more you bring, the more chances you have
to win! Lorry Evans is the morning lottery coordinator; Dawn Batie is the evening coordinator.
BLOCK OF THE MONTH…. A great way to get involved and perhaps learn some new techniques
is to participate in the block of the month activity. At the morning and evening monthly meetings
there will be a new block of the month kit to purchase for $1.00. Complete the block, put it back in
the Ziploc bag (for reuse) and bring it to the next guild meeting. Your name will be entered in a raffle
to win blocks made by you and the other member participants. If you win, you will have enough
blocks to make a quilt! Mary VanDevender and Jan Felthous are the morning block of the month
coordinators; Simone Fisher is the evening coordinator.
SUNSHINE GAL…. If you know of an EIHQ Guild member or a close family of a member in need
of a lift of sunshine due to illness, accident, death, or other, please notify Sondra Lewis either by
phone (319-999-0719, leaving voicemail is great), or email ([email protected]), or text (319-430-
5737). Please let me know the situation, full name and address (if not correct on the EIHQ
membership list), and your contact in case I need more information. I’ll quickly send them a
card on behalf of EIHQ. Thank You! Sondra Lewis
SMALL GROUPS…. I would like to include information about openings with small groups on our
bulletin board. I think this will be a great way for new members to connect with current ones. Please email me if you have a small group that could take on a new member or two. Also, if you are inter-
ested in starting or being part of a small group, let me know.
Thanks, Megan Bracy, [email protected]

SOS : Sharing Our Skills
No truer words have ever been spoken! You people ROCK! From the goodness of your hearts, SOS received, in February, 45 finished quilts! 41 quilt tops! 20 pillow-cases! And 4 doll quilts! What an outpouring of compassion and kindness! Each will go to a home where they are much needed and very appreciated. Talk about a win-win situation; we get to do what we love and the quilts, in return, are much loved. As of the time this is going to press, SPRING is allegedly arriving on March 20th. This just happens to be the day upon which SOS WEDNESDAY falls, so come out and CELEBRATE! The place? KNIGHTS Of COLUMBUS, 1620 E Ave NE. Time? 9:00-3:30. What? Sew quilt tops, tie quilts, world class potluck lunch. Spend a few minutes or all day, any help is appreciated, so we can get those quilt tops you so generously donated finished and out to a deserving home. Besides your BITS and BOBS of BINDINGS and orphan blocks, SOS will gladly receive any and all 9 patch blocks us-ing 3.5" squares, resulting in a 9.5" unfinished block. These will go into twin sized quilts, the desired size of most shelters in the Cedar Rapids area, as well as other organizations to whom we supply quilts. We will be accepting them on an on-going basis, at least for the next several months. Thank you all for making our endeavor so much the easier.....
