Introduction:

Unit 2 – Exam is very similar to the theme project you completed for the last project of Unit 1. It is important that you create a range of evidence to meet the four assessment objectives and to document a personal learning journey from the starting point to a final outcome. You will need to complete the following tasks:

•Title slide•Scatter diagram•Photographer/ photograph analysis – using key technical vocabulary•Initial Ideas development – explore a range of techniques and subject matter•Statement of Intent – where your ideas and direction for work become personalised•Final ideas development section – showing more focussed experiments and refinement of ideas with written analysis and evaluations of work•A final outcome under timed examination conditions

The four assessment objectives cover the areas of:

•You will create a title page which has your name, Unit 2 and candidate number on it.•You will create a scatter diagram showing possible areas/ themes and subject matter to investigate on the theme.•You will collect and present images associated with the theme

•You will explore the theme using the genre of still life photography.•You will create a range of contact strips and experiments showing and analysing successful shots of various still life arrangements and objects on the different aspects of the theme – EARTH, AIR, FIRE, WATER

Task 2:

Water and the still Life:

Take shots of things which are associated with water such as fish, shells, sponges, ice. Try placing objects in containers of water, examine the refraction. Experiment with shooting through wet surfaces to objects behind. Freeze objects and shoot them. Try placing food colouring in water. Consider lighting, composition, colour, b/w, digital manipulation, text and meaning/ mood.

Task 2:

Fire and the still Life:

Take shots of things which fit the fire them such as matches, and burnt objects such as cigarette butts, food, melted things and candles. Experiment with taking shots of flames and smoke.

Task 3:

Air and the still Life:

Take shots of things which are associated with the air or lightness. Shoot objects such as feathers, balloons, kites and fans or shoot objects being blown by the air or floating, you could experiment with digital manipulation.
