Why You’ll Love UWMUWM is a welcoming place to students from all over the world and is home to nearly 400 Asian students each year. In addition to numerous academic clubs, UWM has many student organizations serving the Asian student population such as the Taiwanese Student Association that help make it feel even more like home, more quickly.

You’ll find a vibrant Asian community in Milwaukee with Asian grocery stores and restaurants, and places of worship including the Phuoc-Hau Buddhist Temple, Chinese Christian Church, the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, and the Hindu Temple of Wisconsin.

UWM is fortunate to be just minutes away from Lake Michigan and downtown Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin, and home to the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, the MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Chicago is just south of Milwaukee, home to O’Hare International airport with direct flights from Taiwan to Chicago.

MEET CHING YA CHUANG

Industrial Engineering Dual MS Student, Chang Gung University and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Ching Ya enjoys the wide variety of industrial speakers that give speeches at her Connected Enterprise course. She especially appreciates learning from their experiences and knowing how this program builds opportunities for internships and jobs in the future.

The people in Milwaukee make a difference to Ching Ya’s experience as well. “Most people here are so friendly and full of patience, and there are many activities for international students which help us to adapt lives here.”
