We have a selection of great children’s books available for purchase as a donation to the library. Each book costs $15, a personalized book plate will go inside your purchased title and you will be given the option of being the very first person to check out the book. Every purchase goes to fund our children’s Summer Reading Program and provides more wonderful titles for kids to explore! Thank you, everyone, for your support and generosity in helping us to keep kids reading all summer long. Our fiscal year closes on June 30 and we need your help to meet our goal. Please make your Annual Fund donations now if you have not yet done so. Every year, the Library holds our Annual Fund Appeal to raise money needed to close the gap between our operating budget and the funds supplied by the Town of Falmouth. Annual Fund gifts are solicited and are needed every year to help fund our operations. The Annual Fund drive is separate from the Capital Campaign funds, which, thanks to you, were successfully raised to support our upcoming expansion and renovation project. Lecture: How the Early Music Movement changed classical music August 28 at 6:30 pm at Lunt Auditorium at OceanView In 1829, Felix Mendelssohn organized and conducted a performance of selections from a forgotten masterpiece, J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion. The concert was a seminal event for what we now call the early music movement, which aimed to revive the music and performance practices of past centuries. Over time, early music repertoire joined the mainstream. A byproduct of that evolution was that composers and performers began to adopt early music methodologies (and instrumentation) to later repertoires. Colby College’s Timothy Burris will provide an overview of that evolution, from Roger Norrington's recordings of the Beethoven symphonies to Jonathan Dove's L'altra Euridice, an opera in one act for baritone and (predominantly) baroque instruments. The Flukes Perform to Benefit Children’s Summer Reading Program Tuesday, July 24 at 6:30 pm at Lunt Auditorium at OceanView Join the Falmouth Memorial Library and the Flukes for a night of musical entertainment! It’s a night of fun and ukulele music for the whole family. We anticipate that we will close the library on August 20 so that we may pack and prepare to move the collection to our temporary location at Mason-Motz on September 5, 6, 7. We anticipate opening in our temporary Mason-Motz location on September 17.

Volunteers Needed: As we look ahead to packing up our collection of nearly 50,000 items, we see that we could use some help. So, we are seeking volunteers to assist with a variety of tasks: the assembly of moving boxes; the organization of books and library materials into boxes; and dismantling of library fixtures. If you are interested in helping out, please complete a “Packing & Moving Volunteer” form which indicates the specific dates and times for each task. These forms are available at the circulation desk or can be requested by contacting Jeannie at [email protected].

The Next Chapter: Next Steps

Adult Summer Reading Program June 22-August 11 Summer reading is for everybody. This year, Falmouth Memorial Library and Falmouth300 invite you to participate in our Summer Reading Bingo Extravaganza. This year’s reading lists and activities are based on the national theme of Libraries Rock while at the same time promoting our Tercentennial programs. Fill in your Bingo Card as indicated by the squares with your readings and activities between Saturday, June 22 and Saturday, August 11. Then, drop your completed card off by closing time on August 11 for your chance to win prizes.

A Tisket… A Tasket Returns This summer, the Library will be collecting donated baskets of items to be auctioned off during the month of August. We are looking for baskets full of goodies on any theme and will display them for a few weeks of silent bidding, after which each basket will be awarded to the highest bidder.

Some themed-basket suggestions include: spa basket, movie night basket, golf-lovers basket… use your imagination. We ask that each basket be valued at a suggested minimum of $50, with opening bids starting at $25. Bid early and often for your favorite.

Basket Drop-Off: Donated baskets may be dropped off at the library beginning on Monday, July 30.

Bidding: Bidding will begin at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 1 and will close at a date and time to be determined.
