• An average of 552 new cases of breast cancer annually.
• An average of 89 deaths caused by breast cancer each year.

Breast Cancer Statistics For North Dakota Men
• Men can develop breast cancer too, but it occurs less frequently.
• There were over 22 North Dakota men diagnosed with breast cancer from 2005 to 2009.
• One North Dakota male will die each year from breast cancer.
• Diagnosis and treatment may be delayed by men.

Risk factors include:
• Being a woman.
• Being older than 50 – the risk of breast cancer increases with age.
• Having a personal and/or family history of breast cancer.
• Genetic mutation of the genes BRCA 1 and 2.
• Taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for more than five years.
