As per the International Research Organization, the concept of protective packaging is on a rise by 8% and shall continue to grow further in the next 3-4 years.

Inspite of not being that prevalent in India, it has got huge potential on account of rise in awareness and globalization. The demand is also expected to increase due to rapid development in manufacturing sector, auto, IT hardware industries, consumer durables, exports and so on...

Foamed plastic protective packaging is the most important form of packaging, thanks to its natural property of being lightweight. It also provides excellent cushioning compared to paperboard and other materials.

The ‘Make in India’ campaign undertaken by India’s current prime minister shall promote local manu- facturing and which will result in setting up of new manufacturing facilities & products on a global scale.

This will create huge demand for returnable packaging solutions as well as protective packaging materials like expanded polyethylene foam (PROTECarmour), air bubble film (PROTECbubble), crosslinked polyethylene foam (PROTECcapcell) and so on…

Profile of the Quarter

A promising journey ahead

Problem identified: The conventional and unorganized packing of medical equipments in the kit looks cluttered and inconvenient to handle.

Proposed product: PROTEClitecell fitment

Solution: Designed and developed a customized fabricated buffer of a single 100 mm thick block of PROTEClitecell using the unique CNC router cutting technology for precision, giving excellent protection and better

aesthetics, also making it better organized.

Advantage: Aesthetic packaging embellished the overall appearance of the kit.

Case Study: Packaging solution for medical equipment kit

Did you know?PROTECarmour (high-performance expanded polyethylene foam) offers

excellent cushioning and protects the packed components against

multiple shocks while in transit

Fire-retardant, open-cell engineered XLPE foam for sound insulation.

HVAC equipment for a building is one of the major sources of interior noise. Operation of HVAC equipment can also induce mechanical vibration that propagates into occupied spaces through structure borne paths such as piping, ductwork and mounts. This causes direct discomfort and creates secondary radiation of noise from vibrating walls, floors, piping etc. Therefore, installing a suitable sound-absorbing liner inside the air ducts is an effective way to reduce this air-borne noise and improve the acoustics in the building.

Supreme introduces INSUsound-xlo -a range of high-performance engineered open-cell XLPE foam specially designed for applications that require enhanced sound absorption properties. This non-fibrous, tri-dimensional chemically crosslinked fire-retardant foam provides excellent sound absorption characteristics ideally suited for duct lining application.

INSUsound composite panels can also be offered in standard thicknesses of 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 50mm wedge profiles and in tile forms (size 1ft x 1ft / 400mm x 400mm / 800mm x 400mm). Customized sizes also can be offered.

It’s an ideal application for use as acoustic lining in AHU rooms, pump room, banquet halls, conference rooms etc.

Product Update

The Gen-Next InsulatorThe energy efficiency of a distribution system depends on the design and precision of installation. The ECBC requires insulating ducts and pipelines to reduce energy losses in heating and cooling distribution systems.

The norms that define appropriate air-conditioning vary according to the individual needs. It is a challenge to fulfill individual needs pertaining to suitable thermal conditions when it comes to indoor air-conditioning.

Small commercial buildings use

constant volume rooftop HVAC units, and a simple duct layout for circulating conditioned air. They are generally “unengineered” systems and cost dominates construction practices. This leads to shortcuts in construction practices and/or use of lower-grade materials.

Supreme’s INSU range of products for thermal insulation takes care of such issues by offering immaculate insulation properties which maintain cost-to-energy ratio effectively. They are non-fiberous, non-particulating and adhere to international quality standards.

Supreme’s Insulation Division offers innovative solutions for applications like underdeck insulation, ducting insulation, piping insulation, flooring insulation, overdeck insulation and for acoustic insulation.

Did you know?INSUreflector, radiant heat reflective insulation material is typically used for

underdeck insulation. It demonstrates great thermal insulation benefits when

installed on existing or new roofing sheds.

Nitrile foam INSUsound-xlo

Comparison between (Open-cell nitrile foam & INSUsound-xlo for acoustic insulation application)

Open-cell nitrile PVC foam Engineered open-cell crosslinked polyethylene foam

NSUsound-xlo - A homogeneous product with uniform properties manufactured by extrusion process using virgin polymers

Manufactured by moulding process by re-bonding cured foam, hence non homogeneous

Available in roll form. Very easy to apply on the inner surfaces of the ducts

Available in sheet form 1 mtr x 1 mtr. Difficult to apply. Requires extra efforts & skilled labour to do the application

Foam density is 30 +/- 3 kg/m3Foam density is 140 +/- 20 kg/m3

INSUsound-xlo is supplied with one side flat surface which consumes less adhesive, improves bonding with duct surface. No possibility of liner delami-nating & blocking the airflow

Due to the porous surface on both sides, it consumes more adhesive. As a consequence, the contact surface area is reduced, possibility of delami-nation & blocking of airflow is increased

INSUsound-xlo is fire retardent foam, generating low smoke in case of fire

Manufactured using PVC (highly carcinogenic & toxic fumes) with Nitrile (Cynide family) generating dense toxic smoke

Profile of the Quarter

Infrastructure RedefinedIn today's times "Smart city" development is the need of the hour as even mega cities such as Mumbai & Delhi lack urban planning. It's foundation revolves around 5 elements which need simultaneous growth to create Smart Cities as per plan in a report released by C & W. They are power, infrastructure, funds, technology & social capital.

With urban population in 2031 expected to increase to 600 million, we will require massive restructuring to support this growth. Even Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had allocated Rs 7,060 crore for same.

The role of organizations supporting construction is going to become more prominent and critical. However, the gap between requirements and solutions available remains unfulfilled. To address this need, Supreme has developed customized solutions specifically for the construction requirements of various segments. It offers new generation better alternative products to conventional materials like rubber, metals and wood, thus being more efficient yet cost-effective.

New product launch - DURAchannelguardGuarding Window channels against damages during the project execution is a challenging task. The channels are invariably clogged with debris & dirt requiring labourous cleaning or chang-ing before handing over. Supreme’s DURAchannelguard is a unique solution to the problem saving valuable time, labour & resources.

Chemical waterproofing DURAmembrane

Comparison between chemical waterproofing with DURAmembrane (waterproofing membrane)

Chemical water proofing is cheaper but lacks long term reliability

DURAmembrane offers a long term reliability against water leakages

Chemical waterproofing is susceptible to damages as it is present only on the surface

DURAmembrane is embedded within the slab and is not susceptible to damages

Did you know?DURAprotector boards can be used as a protection board for any type of

membrane / chemical waterproofing treatment.
