GURC Annual MeetingFrom November 10-12, 2014, the Interim Director flew to Washington, DC for the GURC Annual Meeting...

This meeting was imperative and offered our centers an opportunity to explore the new programs and progress at Gallaudet University. This also offered our centers to demonstrate the various projects that each center does, to the Provost and Deans of Gallaudet University.

Our Directors aren’t always “all work, no play.” We did have our evenings planned with group activities, such as: the ASL Trivia Night held at Vendetta on H st. NE where we won 2nd place under the group name “The Fabulous GURCs.” We also went out for dinner at Sticky Rice and enjoyed a night of painting.

For more information on our centers, go to the next page for our web-link.

Western Hills High School receives Youth Leadership Training

On November 21, 2014, GURC-SW traveled to the Fort Worth, TX area to provide a Youth Leadership Training to the students at Western Hills High School...

This training was a wonderful experience. Our center was able to provide a comprehensive Youth Leadership Training to approximately 30 students at Western Hills High School. These students came from all walks of life and various backgrounds.

After we provided the training, we took the time to talk about Gallaudet University, Austin Community College, and what GURC-SW does. We handed out prizes to the students who remembered information that was shared throughout the training and during the presentation. We believe we provided a positive impact for the students at this school.

GURC-SW goes to Louisiana to provide Youth Leadership TrainingBecause Louisiana is one of our southwestern states, GURC-SW had the opportunity to travel to Baton Rouge, LA to provide our Youth Leadership Training on December 11, 2014...

Louisiana School for the Deaf was very hospitable in welcoming GURC-SW on their campus. The training was held in the high school with approximately 25 students.

This training was very unique. The students were very involved, there were a lot of questions asked, and a lot of in-depth discussions with some of the topics that were presented in the training. We also talked about GURC-SW, Gallaudet and Austin Community College.

We look forward to visiting Louisiana School for the Deaf for future events.
