I think we can all agree that the conference was a huge success, however none of it would have been possible without the insurmountable hard work from the ACFE SA team, the dedicated volunteers assisting us during the conference, as well as the great line-up of speakers. We tried to do it on a much larger scale as a practice run for our signature event next year: The 10 th Annual ACFE African Fraud Conference and Exhibition. It’s going to be big, it’s going to be spectacular, it’s going to blow your mind. Another part of the conference that I would like to talk about is the Gala and Awards Dinner. From the CEO

Dear members

A very true statement said by Donald Kendall, “the only place where success comes before work, is the dictionary,” comes to mind when I think about our 9th Annual ACFE African Fraud Conference and Exhibition. I think we can all agree that the conference was a huge success, however none of it would have been possible without the insurmountable hard work from the ACFE SA team, the dedicated volunteers assisting us during the conference, as well as the great line-up of speakers. Positive feedback, still, hasn’t stopped pouring in.

I would also like to thank our five main sponsors for the conference: Platinum Sponsors — EOH Forensic Services and XDS, Silver Sponsors — ARMS and PSiRA, and Bronze Sponsor — Auditor and General, without whom none of this would have been possible.

I think I can confidently say that we have achieved what we set out to when planning the conference this year. We tried to do it on a much larger scale as a practice run for our signature event next year: The 10th Annual ACFE African Fraud Conference and Exhibition. It’s going to be big, it’s going to be spectacular, it’s going to blow your mind. Another part of the conference that I would like to talk about is the Gala and Awards Dinner. The highly anticipated main event of the Conference, turned out to be just as spectacular as expected. From the entertainment to the food, from the awards to Adv. Thuli Madonsela’s award acceptance speech, it was an event to add to the history books.

Moving on to the International Fraud Awareness Week, I think it’s fitting to remember what Lee Morris said: “the road to success for 99% of people isn’t a jump! It’s a steady incline from one successful project to the next.” We, as fraud investigators, must always do our utmost to spread fraud awareness throughout the country and the Fraud

The ACFE Mission

The mission of the Association of

Certified Fraud Examiners is to reduce the incidence of fraud and

white-collar crime and to assist the membership in its detection and

deterrence through training, networking and technical updates.

To accomplish our mission, the ACFE:

• Provides bona fide qualifications for Certified Fraud Examiners through administration of the CFE Examination and the Learnership: Certified Forensic Practitioner (CFP).

• Sets high standards for admission, including demonstrated competence through mandatory continuing professional education.

• Requires members to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct and ethics.

• Serves as the international representative for Certified Fraud Examiners to business, government and academic institutions.

• Provides leadership to inspire public confidence in the integrity, objectivity, and professionalism of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Week is the perfect platform to do just that with events taking place in Gauteng, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

The time to eradicate fraud is now.

Lastly, I want to welcome the following board members to our Board of Directors: Adri Botha

HOPE YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC NOVEMBER.

Empowerment can be defined as using measures designed to increase the degree of autonomy and self-determination in people and in communities which

will enable them to represent their interests in a responsible and self-determined way, acting on their own authority. I have decided to introduce a theme for each month by which we will cater our communication to you, our members. It is important that we all work ourselves towards an Achievable goal for every month of the year. For the month of November, I want you to embody the

meaning of ‘empowerment’. Whether it’s empowering yourself or somebody else, it will end up being a very rewarding experience.

The two people who inspired the theme this month are no other than Freeman Nomvalo and Adv. Thuli Madonsela. The speeches they delivered at the Gala and Awards dinner for the 9th Annual ACFE African Fraud Conference and Exhibition left me, and I’m sure all who attended, with an astonished feeling of empowerment.

Freeman Nomvalo’s emphasis on organisational culture and the effectiveness and empowerment of employees in the work environment highlighted an issue

Adv. Thuli Madonsela embodies everything we stand for as anti-fraud professionals. Her powerful words were meant to force us into the direction of doing what is right and trying our best to completely eradicate fraud and corruption in our country. She empowered us and motivated us to believe that standing up for what is right is, for this country, the most noble thing to do right now.
