LocationGrizedale Forest is near Hawkshead, Ambleside and is signposted from the B5285 from Hawkshead. Alternative route for coaches is from the south via the A590 at Greenodd. Car parking charges apply.
LocationSignposted from the A66, just west of Keswick, look out for the brown tourist signs. The main visitor centre car park is three miles along the Whinlatter Pass. Car parking charges apply.

Wild about...Mountains of trails, forest, wildlife, views & adventureCycling for everyoneWhinlatter puts the mountain back into biking with the Lake District’s longest singletrack mountain biking route, the Altura Trail. There’s also the blue Quercus Trail and biking on the forest roads. Food & drinkSiskins Cafe offers a range of freshly prepared food and is a great place to refuel. The balcony and outdoor eating area are the perfect spots for sunny days, with fantastic views of Grisedale Pike. Picnic areas are also available at the car parks.

Grizedale is famous for its red deer, as well as roe deer, buzzards and barn owls. Plus, you can now see red kites soaring through the sky, since the release of 90 chicks in a bid to re-establish a population in the area.
Whinlatter is a National Red Squirrel Reserve and home to the Lake District Osprey Project. The project runs from April to August and the Ospreys can be seen at the viewpoints in Dodd Wood or via a live video link at the Visitor Centre.

Mark Williams of Galloway Wild Foods will be leading a series of guided forays at various forest locations throughout the year including Grizedale, Whinlatter, Dodd and Setmurthy near Cockermouth. Suitable for all ages, walk routes are designed to learn about a wide range of gourmet, nutritious and useful plants and fungi, as well as the ones to avoid!
