Outages

diamond– Limitations of 32-bit code on Solaris– Short term fix: offloading users– Long term fix: recompiling software

garnet– Increased usage by existing users– Starting to offload users who don’t

use interactive features

Web Permissions Problem Patched email servers on 2/3 “Fixed” a problem interpreting

umask (default permissions for new files)

Changed default permissions on files uploaded with SFTP/SCP to be inaccessible via web

Fixed as of 3pm 2/12

AutoFiling

Converting from IMAP namespace to symlink for all users to work around client problems

Found solution to client hangs during autofiled server outages

Autofiling will resume in about a week

UMCal Archiving

Started archiving old (> 18 mo.) calendar entries as of 2/1

EXCEPT: Crookston users scheduled for 3/1

Anecdotal evidence: performance is better now

Self-serve password reset Rolling out to a couple thousand

students per day User is asked during login to set

up secrets to enable future password resets

Still tweaking interface as we go
