[12] Pay heed! It is they who are mischievous, but they do not have sense.

[13] And when it is said to them, "Believe as the others believe", they say, "Shall we believe as the foolish believe?" It is they who are the fools, but they do not know.

[14] And when they meet with the believers, they say, "We believe"; and when they are alone with their devils, they say, "We are undoubtedly with you, we were just mocking!"

[15] Allah (befitting His Majesty) mocks them, leaving them to wander blindly in their rebellion.

[16] These are the people who purchased error in exchange of guidance - so their bargain did not profit them, and they did not know how to trade.

HHAADDIITTHH

Narrated 'Aisha:

On the day of a solar eclipse, Allah's Apostle stood up (to offer the eclipse prayer). He

recited Takbir, recited a long recitation (of Holy Verses), bowed a long bowing, and then

he raised h is head saying. "Allah hears him who sends his praises to Him." Then he

stayed standing, recited a long recitation again, but shorter than the former, bowed a

long bowing, but shorter than the first, performed a long prostration and then

performed the second Rak'a in the same way as he had done the first. By the time he had

finished his prayer with Taslim, the solar eclipse had been over. Then he addressed the

people referring to the solar and lunar eclipses saying, "These are two signs amongst the

Signs of Allah, and they do not eclipse because of anyone's death or life. So, if you see

them, hasten for the Prayer." [Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 425]

Narrated Usama bin Zaid:

The Prophet said, "Angels keep on descending from and ascending to the Heaven in turn,

some at night and some by daytime, and all of them assemble together at the time of the

Fajr and 'Asr prayers. Then those who have stayed with you over-night, ascent unto Allah

Who asks them, and He knows the answer better than they, "How have you left My

slaves?" They reply, "We have left them praying as we found them praying." If anyone of

you says "Amin" (during the Prayer at the end of the recitation of Surat-al-Faitiha), and

the angels in Heaven say the same, and the two sayings coincide, all his past sins will be

forgiven. [Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 446]

There is no doubt that the future

of our State will and must greatly

depend upon the type of

education and the way in which

we bring up our children as the

future servants of Pakistan.

Education does not merely mean

that appears to be of a very poor

Editorial

“In the name of Allah, the most

Beneficent, the most Merciful”

Our beloved country, Pakistan is suffering from the worst and the most

challenging situation. The recent operation in Swat by the security forces against

Taliban and terrorists have increased the tension. More than 4000,000 people have

emigrated and to provide them food, shelter and clothes is a big challenge for the

government.

Those people need our help. Being a Muslim, it is our religious, moral, social and

ethical responsibility to help our brothers and sisters in their miserable condition.

Many of us spend a lot of money in just vain activities but if we do not eat fast

food for one day and give that money in funding campaigns then it can definitely

change the situation.

We are in a constant threat from different crisis which have emerged like a snow

ball which does not only speed up as it rolls down but also gets bigger. Our

enemies do want political stability in our country but we have to face them with

courage and bravery. It is truly said that “GOD helps those who help themselves.”

So, if we want to progress and to compete in the race of developing countries then

we have to overcome these crisis unanimously.

If our enemies have united to harm us then why can’t we think of as Pakistani

instead of calling ourselves as Panjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pathans or Muhajirs. The

time has come to learn from the past mistakes and promote the feeling the

brotherhood. Only, in that way we will be able to face all the challenges. May,

ALLAH bless our country with all HIS bounties and keep us save from all the

internal and external conspiracies and evil doers.

Children are spending increasing amounts of their lives in front of the box, PCs and games consoles, cramming in nearly six hours of screen time a day. The online activity is building barriers between parents and children, researchers reveal, with a third of the young insisting they can hardly live without their computer. From the age of seven children are building multimedia hubs in their rooms, with games consoles, internet access and MP3 players, which they wake up to in the morning and fall asleep to at night. Girls in particular are likely to chat online to their friends at night and 38 percent take a console to bed instead of a book. Some parents who have stopped their children from having the box in their bedroom for fear they will watch it too much have justified Internet access on the basis that it will help with homework. But the latest revelations find children and young teens are more likely to socialise than do homework online. Some 30 percent say they have a blog and 62 percent have a profile on a social networking site. Screen time has become so pervasive in the daily lives of five- to 16-year-olds that they are now skilled managers of their free time, juggling technology to fit in on average six hours of the box, playing games and surfing the net. But reading books is falling out of favour. To pay for their habits, ad hoc handouts from parents and grandparents are becoming more lucrative and in some cases replacing ordinary pocket money altogether. Two-thirds of children had been given a handout from a family member in the week before they were questioned, which they did not expect to pay back. Children who use the Internet spend on average 1.7 hours a day online, but one in six spent more than three hours a day online on top of the 1.5 hours they spent on their games consoles. They still have time for 2.7 hours of television -- though the revelations say they tend to multitask, doing these activities simultaneously. Where children initially began using the Internet to do homework, that has become an afterthought and they are much more likely to spend their time online socialising. One in three said the computer is the single thing they couldn’t live without, compared with a declining number - one in five - who name television. Pupils are using the Internet less while at school, frustrated by the low-tech access and the restrictions put in place to stop them from accessing inappropriate material. Younger girls are now catching up

with boys in the use of games consoles. Today’s research suggests that could now be the case. The Internet has moved to a whole new level. They are watching the same amount of the box but there is a change in the way children communicate and get their information. It’s so clear that a lot of children are fluent communicators but not in a conventional way. They aren’t readers; they are reliant on spell checks. They are a generation abandoning print and paper, and the whole integration of technology and the way they glide from one to the other is seamless. They will be surfing the net, talking to a friend and downloading a track simultaneously. It’s hard for the older generation to understand what’s going on with their children because they communicate in a completely different way.

TThhee SSttoorryy ooff FFrreeee LLaappttooppss ne day I received an email from my friend regarding the free distribution of Ericsson laptops. I ignored that

mail, thinking it a foolish joke. But the reception of that email didn’t stop. I received the same email from

about ten people. The layout of that email was very interesting and foolish at the same time. It also contained a

broacher which I’ve here.

I was tired of such sick emails, so I sent an email to both Ericsson and Sony Ericsson regarding this email and

asked them about their action against such activities which are going in the name of their company. Here I

would like to share their responses with you people so that all of you get aware of the reality.

Response from Ericsson:

Dear Mian Zeshan Farooqi,

This is the answer to the question that you submitted

to Ericsson.com page, we hope that it is to your

satisfaction.

Answer:

Thank you for informing Ericsson.

Ericsson is not giving away neither mobile phones

nor laptop computers for free. The chain letter is a

fraud which has not been initiated by Ericsson.

A chain letter has been circulating via e-mail,

purporting that Ericsson is giving away different

models of mobile phones. The e-mail is just another

example of spam mail.

The following is an extract from one of the chain

letters:

"If you forward it [the letter] to 20 friends, you will

receive the brand new Ericsson [R320

WAP/P800/T600] phone."

The letter is signed off Anna Swelund (or Swelung), Executive Promotion Manager for Ericsson Marketing. This

person does not exist at Ericsson.

Ericsson is sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused and kindly ask you not to forward the chain letter

any further.

Response from Sony Ericsson:

Dear Mr. Mian Zeeshan Farooqui,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.

With regards to your inquiry concerning receiving an email that informs about a winning notification kindly be

informed that Sony Ericsson has been made aware of an online email campaign claiming that Ericsson will give

away a free laptop computer to users who forward the promotional information. The same campaign includes a

photograph of the Sony Ericsson logo and mentions an Ericsson contact name and email number.

Sony Ericsson confirms that this email campaign is fraudulent and untrue. The company also wishes to take this

opportunity to apologize to members of the general public for causing any inconvenience or confusion.

Please do not reply to or forward the email if you receive it and examples of these please include via spam emails

or SMS. Please contact us again if we can be of further assistance and also visit our website at

Best Regards,

P.S. For assistance on another issue, please send us a new e-mail to register your case with a new reference

number.

Dear readers! Never forward such emails about which you’re not confirmed. As you read that this email is a

fraud chain. When you forward such emails to others, without confirmation, actually you also become the part

of this fraud. Forwarding of this email was not a very big issue but unfortunately some people also forward some

messages which contain sensitive invalid contents. So please do not forward any message until you’re not

confirmed about it and also don’t believe any unusual message until you confirm it by your own.

olors often have different meanings in various cultures. And even in Western societies, the meanings of

various colors have changed over the years. But today researchers have generally found the following to

be accurate.

Black

Black is the color of authority and power. It is popular in fashion because it makes people appear thinner. It is

also stylish and timeless. Black also implies submission. Priests wear black to signify submission to God. Some

fashion experts say a woman wearing black implies submission to men. Black outfits can also be overpowering,

or make the wearer seem aloof or evil. Villains, such as Dracula, often wear black.

White

Brides wear white to symbolize innocence and purity. White reflects light and is considered a summer color.

White is popular in decorating and in fashion because it is light, neutral, and goes with everything. However,

white shows dirt and is therefore more difficult to keep clean than other colors. Doctors and nurses wear white

to imply sterility.

Red

The most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love.

Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear heavier. Since it is an extreme color, red clothing might

not help people in negotiations or confrontations. Red cars are popular targets for thieves. In decorating, red is

usually used as an accent. Decorators say that red furniture should be perfect since it will attract attention.

Pink

The most romantic color, pink, is more tranquilizing. Sports teams sometimes paint the locker rooms used by

opposing teams bright pink so their opponents will lose energy.

Blue

The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red.

Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms. Blue can

also be cold and depressing. Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it

symbolizes loyalty. People are more productive in blue rooms. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle

heavier weights in blue gyms.

Green

Currently the most popular decorating color, green symbolizes nature. It is the easiest color on the eye and can

improve vision. It is a calming, refreshing color. People waiting to appear on TV sit in "green rooms" to relax.

Hospitals often use green because it relaxes patients. Brides in the “Middle Ages” wore green to symbolize

fertility. Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth. However, seamstresses often refuse to use

green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck.

Yellow

Cheerful sunny yellow is an attention getter. While it is considered an optimistic color, people lose their tempers

more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can

be overpowering if overused. Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads. It also speeds

metabolism.

Purple

The color of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is also feminine and romantic.

However, because it is rare in nature, purple can appear artificial.

Brown

Solid, reliable brown is the color of earth and is abundant in nature. Light brown implies genuineness while dark

brown is similar to wood or leather. Brown can also be sad and wistful. Men are more apt to say brown is one of

their favorite colors.

Food for Thought

While blue is one of the most popular colors it is one of the least appetizing. Blue food is rare in nature. Food

researchers say that when humans searched for food, they learned to avoid toxic or spoiled objects, which were

often blue, black, or purple. When food dyed blue is served to study subjects, they lose appetite. Green, brown,

and red are the most popular food colors. Red is often used in restaurant decorating schemes because it is an

appetite stimulant.

You’re watching the final scene in Thelma and Louise, and you’re on your third handkerchief. You turn your tear

stained face to the side and look through blurred, saline-flooded vision at your cat, who is staring back at you

witnessing the curious spectacle. Why it is that humans can be reduced to blubbering messes, while other

members of the animal kingdom don’t seem to let out even a sniffle?

We have tear ducts to lubricate and protect our eyes from dust and other particles. The ducts are under the

upper eyelids and produce a salty liquid—a tear-–-that gets spread throughout the eye after each blink. Animals

too have the ability to produce tears, but not necessarily for the same reasons that we humans produce them.

Three types of tears are generated by the human eye. Basal tears protect the eye and keep it moist. Reflex tears

flush out the eye when it becomes irritated. And emotional tears flow in response to sadness, distress, or

physical pain.

Studies have shown that emotional tears contain more manganese, an element that affects temperament, and

more prolactin, a hormone that regulates milk production. Sobbing out manganese and prolactin is thought to

relieve tension by balancing the body’s stress levels and eliminating build ups of the chemicals, making the crier

feel better.

But this minor physiological benefit aside, the most likely reason we produce emotional tears is because it’s a

means of communication. Before babies can speak, they can cry. The only way for infants to express frustration,

pain, fear, or need is to cry. Adults may use crying to bond with other humans. Expressing sadness can prompt

comfort and support from peers. Different languages can provide barriers to spoken communication, but

emotions are universal. There are also culturally acceptable reasons for crying that bring people together, such

as at funerals or weddings.

Though there is a significant debate over whether animals have emotions and can express them, some animals

do appear to cry for emotional reasons. Elephants seem to grieve when a family member dies and will guard the

body and travel long distances to view it. Elephant experts at the London Zoo once told Charles Darwin that the

animals do indeed mourn. Chimpanzees also appear to cry, but some scientists still insist that the tears released

by these animals are strictly for cleaning the eye.

Whether or not, animals shed tears for emotional reasons has yet to be scientifically proven. Humans, however,

can and do dissolve into tears for any number of reasons. Cleansing the eye, relieving stress, conveying pain,

communication, and societal assimilation can all lead to an empty tissue box. So weeping after that sappy movie

might not mean that you are a total wuss after all. In fact, it may mean that you are behaving like a perfectly

normal human being.

The scorching sun, blazing heat, flaring tempers, power outages, glistening foreheads and parched throats is all

that we call summer. Along with the lure of delicious mangoes and cool melons, summer also heralds the arrival

of heat strokes and outbreaks of diarrhoea. Our wilted, sweaty look completes the picture.

Here are a few tips to help you feel better this summer:

EEaattiinngg rriigghhtt

If your food is light, then you are eating right! It should be fresh and preferably home cooked. Avoid eating from

roadside vendors or even canteens as you can never be sure of the freshness and quality of the food available

there.

Fresh salad is a must, be it fruit or vegetable. In fact, summer is the ideal time to lose weight but you’ll have to

cut down on your consumption of mangoes (or the weighing scale will definitely tilt the wrong way at the end of

the season).

Remember, your nose is your best guide. Be sure to first smell the food that you are about to consume when

eating out. If your olfactory sense says “something isn’t right”, then don’t eat it.

QQuueenncchhiinngg yyoouurr tthhiirrsstt

Boiled water is ideal for this purpose. Drink lots of water as it will prevent dehydration due to excessive sweating

on a really hot steamy day. Normally, for people above 13 years of age 12-14 glasses are recommended per day.

The tip is: Drink according to thirst and a glass more.

Fruit juices, lemonade, lassi and milk shakes are also excellent for quenching your thirst in addition to providing

the essential salts which your body loses during perspiration. However, please do not reach out for a cola drink

as it will only provide temporary relief because of its chilled state (ever wondered why you drink water after

having a cola?).

IInn tthhee ssuunn

It is really important to protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun which range from sunstrokes to

sunburns.

Keep your head covered as it will not only protect you from the heat but also save your hair from going brittle.

You may need to get your hair deep-conditioned occasionally to nullify any harm to the hair shafts.

The shades that you use not only make you look cool but also protect your eyes from the damaging effects of

the sun. It is really important that you use a branded variety as it will afford maximum protection.

E-MAG

The second best selling game of all time is Jenga. Jenga is a Swahili word, meaning "to build." 17

Page 18: E-MAG (4th edition)

Liberal use of sunscreen lotion is highly recommended when going out in the sun. For our part of the world,

lotions with Sun Protection Factor 15 are suitable. The lotion should be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure

and re-application is needed after perspiring heavily or swimming.

Try to avoid exposure to the sun between 10 am and 3 pm as much as possible. Additional measures that you

can take to protect against the blazing sun include wearing full-sleeved shirts and wide-brim hats. Always carry a

bottle of water with you.

HHyyggiieennee

Bathing daily takes care of all-over perspiration and promotes good health. Deodorants and antiperspirants

should be applied at least fifteen minutes after a shower. You should never apply the antiperspirant to broken

or irritated skin.

Regularly wash your feet and use foot powder before wearing socks as it will prevent bad odour.

Keep your underarms clean as this will help prevent body odour.

SSuummmmeerr ccllootthheess

Ideally you should wear loose fitting clothes as they make you feel cooler. Also stick to the summer fabrics like

cotton or silk. Natural fabrics breathe but the synthetic ones, such as polyester and rayon do not. The latter

variety also traps sweat and makes you smell.

Use light summery colours and white is a must-have as always. Avoid dark colours especially during the day as

they absorb heat.

SSuummmmeerr sscceennttss

These are light and fresh. You should use alcohol-free body sprays. As a variation, try the fruit-smelling body

mists or even toilet water spray with an aromatherapy scent. Heavier perfumes should be avoided.

AAvvooiiddiinngg ssuunnssttrrookkee

This occurs because of over-exposure to the sun, over-exertion and too little water. The symptoms may be

elevated body temperature, confusion, unconsciousness or even coma. Treatment includes bringing down the

body temperature by using ice-water packs and placing the person in a cool, well ventilated environment. This is

normally done in a hospital setting.

So, if you drink well, eat right and take all the necessary precautions when venturing out in the sun there is

nothing to stop you from enjoying a cool summer.

Have fun!

Magnet

You can hang the iron rods on a string and watch which one turns to the north (or hang just one rod). Gardner gives one more solution: take one rod and touch with its end the middle of the second rod. If they get closer, then

you have a magnet in your hand. The real magnet will have a magnetic field at its poles, but not at its center. So as

previously mentioned, if you take the iron bar and touch its tip to the magnet's center, the iron bar will not be attracted. This is assuming that the magnet's poles are at its ends. If the poles run through the length of the

magnet, then it would be much harder to use this method. In that case, rotate one rod around its axis while holding

an end of the other to its middle. If the rotating rod is the magnet, the force will fluctuate as the rod rotates. If the rotating rod is not magnetic, the force is constant (provided you can keep their positions steady).

Cost of War

Add up all the injuries, and you find that 100 soldiers suffered a total of 310 injuries. That total means that, at a

minimum, 100 soldiers lost 3 body parts, and 10 (the remainder when dividing 310 by 100) must have lost all 4

body parts. (In reality, as many as 70 may have lost all 4 body parts.)

A different perspective on polymorphism

Runtime Polymorphism:

“Objects of different classes related by inheritance respond differently to the same message.” And Binding:

means which function body to invoke on a function call is called binding. If the decision is being taken place at

compile time, it is called compile/static binding and if the decision is being taken place at runtime then it is

called runtime binding.

Overloading vs Hiding vs Overriding:

Overloading

o Two functions that are overloaded must have the same scope but different signatures.

o Their formal argument lists are different or one of the is const and the other is not.

Hiding

o A function declared in derived class with the same as in base class hides the base class method and

does not override it.

Overriding

o Already defined above….

Coding Example: to differentiate among hiding, overriding and overloading.

class base

{

int a;

public:

virtual void f(int)

{

}

virtual void g(int)

In the previous episode we learnt about the variables and expressions evaluation. In this episode we’ll learn

about the Program Control Statements. You know that a program is executed in a sequence. One instruction is

executed after the other. We can alter this flow of program by some statements known as ‘Program Control

Statements’. These statements are of three types i.e. ‘Selection Statements’, ‘Iteration Statements’ and ‘Jump

Statements’. In this episode we’ll focus on ‘Selection statements’ which includes if and switch statements.

if is a reserved keyword in C++. It is used to select one way between two ways. The general form of if

statement is as follow:

where expression is any arithmetic or logical expression. When the expression is evaluated to a non-zero value,

then statement1 will be executed. Otherwise statement1 will be skipped and statement2 will be executed. else

is also a reserved keyword of C++ which is targeted when the expression of if statement evaluates to 0 (zero).

Look at the following cases:

In case-1, stement1 will be executed because the expression in if statement is non-zero. In case-2 the expression

of if statement is zero i.e. statement1 will be skipped and statement2 will be executed.

Note that it is not necessary to write else with if statement. Look at the following piece of code:

E-MAG

if( expression )

statement1;

else

statement2;

Case 1:

if( 8 )

else

statement2;

Case 2:

if( 0 )

statement1;

else

statement2;

if( expression )

statement1;

statement2;

E - M A G

Episode # 4

Page 35: E-MAG (4th edition)

In the above case, statement1 will be executed only when the expression will be non-zero while statement2 will

be executed in any case. The above code doesn’t mean that if the expression is non-zero then execute

statement1 and statement2. Rather it means that if the given expression is non-zero then execute statement1

otherwise skip this statement and execute statement2 in both cases. If you want to execute multiple statements

then you have to write a block-of-code instead of a single statement. Check the following example:

In the above program, you can see that if user enters an even number then we grant them 10 scores, else we

give them no score. In both cases we’ve to print their score. Such statements which have to be repeated in both

cases should be written outside the if-else statements. By this practice we can reduce the line-of-codes and this

practice is greatly appreciated because it is a professional style. So we modify our program as follow:

void main ()

{

int number;

int score;

cout<<‛Enter an even number:\t‛;

cin>>number;

if( number%2 == 0 ) // correct input is given

{

score = 10;

cout<<‛Your score is:\t‛<<score;

}

else

{

score = 0;

cout<<‛Your score is:\t‛<<score;

}

}

void main ()

{

int number;

int score;

cout<<‛Enter an even number:\t‛;

cin>>number;

if( number%2 == 0 ) // correct input is given

score = 10;

else

score = 0;

cout<<‛Your score is:\t‛<<score;

}

E-MAG

No piece of paper can be folded in half more than 7 times. 35

Page 36: E-MAG (4th edition)

There’s another concept of nested if-else. If we put some if-else statements inside an if-else statement then it is

known as nested if-else statement. The general forms of nested if-else are given below:

As you can see that it is not necessary for every if statement to have an else part. C++ language states that at

least 256 nested levels must be allowed but practically compilers allow much more nested levels. Keep in mind

that more nested levels, the more confusing code. So avoid nesting if-else statements until it is necessary.

Now you would have understood that if-else statements allow us to choose one between two ways. But what if

we have to choose a way from more than one way? For this purpose, we introduce else if statements. This

statement allows us to choose one way among many ways. else if statement executes when: the above

(predecessor) if and else if statements are not executed and given expression is non-zero. Here’s the general

form of else if statements:

if( expression1 )

{

if( expression2 )

{

if( expression 3 )

statement-A;

}

else

statement;

}

else

{

if( expression 4 )

statement-B;

statement-C;

}

if( expression1 )

statement1;

else if( expression2 )

statement2;

else

statement3;

E-MAG

More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes. 36

Page 37: E-MAG (4th edition)

In the above example if expression1 is non-zero then statement1 will be executed and remaining two

statements will be skipped. Otherwise, first it will see that if expression2 is non-zero then statement2 will be

executed and statement3 is skipped. If both expression1 and expression2 are zero then statement3 will be

executed. You can add more than one else if statements, for example:

For better understanding of working of if-else and else if statements, see the following example:

if( expression1 )

statement1;

else if( expression2 )

statement2;

else if( expression3 )

statement3;

.

.

.

else if( expression-n )

statement-n;

else

statement;

void main ()

{

int number;

cout<<‛Enter a number from 1 to 3:\t‛;

cin>>number;

if( number == 1 ) // correct input is given

cout<<‛You’ve entered one.‛;

else if( number == 2 )

cout<<‛You’ve entered two.‛;

else if( number == 3 )

cout<<‛You’ve entered three.‛;

else
