SeleCtIONS FrOM ELIXIR OF LOVE

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, an opera for kids! Step under the big top at our wacky circus, and hear some of the most fantastic music ever written. An elixir is a magic potion, and Nemorino is hopeful that this magic potion will help Adina to fall in love with him.

An opera is a story told through music and singing, and this opera by Donizetti is over 180 years old!

Our Spotlight Instrument today is the voice and you are going to learn about a number of different voice types. For instance, Adina is a soprano, which means that she has a high voice. On the opposite end is Dulcamara, who is a baritone, which means he has a low voice.

Now sit back and enjoy Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love performed by our excellent singers and the amazing Pacific Symphony! We hope to see you at our next concert, Peter and the Wolf with Magic Circle Mime Co., in February!

Sincerely,

Roger

SPOTLIGHT INSTRUMENT, THE VOICEWhen most people think of musical instruments, they might think of something you can hold, like a violin or a flute. However, the human voice is such a unique instrument that you can’t even see it---it comes from your own body!

Your voice can make music through speaking, singing, or even making noises to imitate percussion.

Did you know that everyone has a different singing voice? That’s right! You have a singing voice that is different from your mother, father, brother, sister, best friend, everyone! Now, let’s think of the singing voice being like one big potion bottle like the Elixir of Love!

Let’s take a look at the potion bottle below to see the difference between the voices!
