Hi Folks

I would like to thank the Bylaw committee, made up of; Jay Zimmett, Ken Notter, Frank Alessio, and Jack Bryson, for their diligence. There were approximately 90 votes cast to decide the proposed By-law changes. All proposed changes were approved by a 3 to 1 margin. Many thanks to all who came to the General Meeting to vote.

Nominations for EF&GA Officers are open at the General Meeting in April. This is the first round of nominations, to be followed by a second round of nominations, and a vote, at the May General Meeting. Please come and participate. Remember what your Vice President often says, "Get involved! The World is run by those who show up!"

Many thanks to Bill Nordberg who donated $1,000 to the Junior Marksmanship Program. There is an effort underway by Neil Pisk and Richard Cross to generate both financial support, and donations of ammunition that will keep our Junior Programs thriving. Please contact your Vice President, Mr. Neil Pisk for further details.

... And speaking of our Junior Programs,

Many thanks to our coaches and support staff that stuck it out, and braved rain, hail, and cold temperatures to put on our Jr. Rifle Match. Congratulations to Jerry Everett who made it into the Distinguished Expert Classification with a score of 384 out of 400.

Trap Chairman Dave Burton is heading up the remodel effort on the Trap Ramada. Not much to see yet, as it is in the planning stage. If you can lend a hand or offer a skill or resource, please contact Mr. Burton.

ANOTHER OUTSTANDING JUNIOR RIFLE SHOOT The Assoc. owes a huge debt of gratitude and thankfulness to the Coaches and to some

of the parents who stepped up to help coach. The weather for the match covered most of the conditions that you would associate with bad weather, cold, rain, hail, and clouds with very rare appearances of the sun. The coaches remained on the line and endured the weather for the sake of the kids relay after relay. Coaches are the backbone of our Jr. Program. To all of our Jr. shooters and their parents please make sure that you thank our coaches, they are the ones who make this the finest jr. program around by sharing their experience and time. Hope to see you at our next match on July 15th, Signups will begin on July 4th. There will not be a match in May due to the annual club BBQ.

NEW MONTHLY RAFFLE CHAIRBud Smith is the new Raffle Chairman. Theitems on the table are a combination of donated andpurchased items from our Association. If youhave a donation (new or used) of items relatedto our sport please contact Bud @ 858-922-6489. Thanks for supporting your association.

r A n g e m A s t e r s o u n d o f f

My apologies for not having a “Range Master Sound-Off” in the March Newsletter. My PC crashed and I had to purchase a new one. It took a while to get the data transferred and the system up and running.

F.Y.I. There seems to be a nesting pair of Bald Eagles in the Lake Wohlford area. We saw them in mid-March and it was confirmed by the Rangers at the Lake. If you think you see a pair of Bald Eagles soaring in the area, you are probably correct.

There seems to be some misinformation going around regarding the 150 yard range. I heard that some believe you can only shoot at 150 yards. I do not know

where this came from, but let us bury it now. The 150 Yard range is open for target shooting at 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 yards. No shooting allowed on the 15 and 25 yards lines. The 15 and 25 yard lines are for sanctioned shoots only, e.g., Junior Rifle.

Remember, no handguns allowed on the 150 yard range. Bullets may/will strike the ground and ricochet to where-ever. Handguns are allowed on the 100 yard range at 50 yards and greater and bullets must impact the berm. And no shooting on the 15 and 25 yard lines (on the 150).

The five, seven and ten yard distances are open on the Pistol Range. There are specific rules for this close range shooting. Target must be 10 inches square or round maximum (10 inch maximum envelope size for more than one target) and centered on the 24 inch by 24 inch target backing cardboard. The target backing must be at the top of the target frame. No silhouettes allowed. Target placement is designed to keep bullets impacting the backstop and hitting the target frame. Also, check to make sure your bullets make it to the backstop. If you are not going to use the last bay with close range shooting, please set up in another bay keeping the close in shooting lanes open for those that wish to use them. The rules are posted nearby and all normal range rules apply; i.e., no rapid fire, no draw from a holster, etc.

My “What the ….?” for the month. Some of you have been seen walking down to the 100 yard line, on the 100 yard range, to set, service or retrieve targets. Not such a big thing, except that there have been members using the trap range and actively shooting while other members went down range. I think that is all that needs to be said.

Range Safety Tip Of The Month. Be sure your firearm is safe to operate. Just like other tools, firearms need

regular maintenance to remain operable. Regular cleaning and proper storage are a part of a firearms general upkeep. The current literature on firearm storage is to have the muzzle down. This will keep oil, etc., used to protect the bore from moving into the breach and possibly causing a problem.

If your firearm has been in storage for any period of time, do a light cleaning of the bore and action before coming to the range. Some oils will “gum up” or harden over time and could cause a problem for a bullet traveling down the bore. Also, if you have a firearm you shoot regularly, it may be a good practice to run a “patch” or bore-snake down the bore to make sure it is clean and dry before shooting it.
