Stewardship

In today’s second reading Saint Paul’s final appeal is a call for unity. God created that unity. Good stewards who share Christ’s life in the Eu-charist belong to each other, just as God in the three persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit enjoy unity. We are an inti-mate part of God’s divine bond, God’s “family.” Saint Paul maintains that we ought to act that way. In the Church

there is a bond of family, yet plenty of room for variety. Christian stewards use their uniquely varied gifts to live a Trinitarian faith, in unity, promoting Christ’s peace and justice. How do we promote unity in our parish?

Reflection for the Week:

“God so loved the world that He gave His

only Son. (John 3:16)

The Gospel today is sometimes called “the

Gospel in miniature” because it so

concisely sums up the Gospel message. In

even more condensed form, “God

loved…God gave…” is the paradigm for

stewardship – we give because we love.

Stewardship Prayer

Heart To Share – June Stewardship Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Give us the courage to live Your Gospel

fully even when it brings risk, to share

Your Word vibrantly even if it leads to

scorn, and to respond to others

generously even when we feel like

holding back. Show us the way to live as

good stewards of Your presence among

us, and in doing so, may we shine Your

light on a darkened world.

Amen.

5 week Summer Course with Deacon Dana

“Temple and the Presence of God”

On Wednesday, June 7, 21, July 5, 19 & Aug. 2, 5:30 - 6:30pm

in the Prayer Room.

Among the many themes that run through the entirety of Sacred Scripture is the Temple. The related themes of Covenant and Temple are critical keys to aid us in understanding God’s plan for his people. Temple is not only an important element of the Old Testament, but plays a key role in the Gospels and other books of the New Testament. Come understand how God first manifested his presence in the Cosmic Temple and continues to reveal His presence in the Tabernacle, with the Incarnation, his presence in the Temple of Christ and at Pentecost the Church is born. The Presence of God, His dwelling, His Temple, is the Christian community. And finally, we enter the Heavenly Tem-ple, the consummation of the work of salvation.

If you plan to attend please call or contact Frank Webber– see

email below.

Trinity Sunday Trinity Sunday is a moveable feast celebrated a week after Pentecost Sunday. Also known as Holy Trinity Sunday. Trinity Sunday honors the most fundamental of Christian beliefs—belief in the Holy Trinity. The human mind can never fully understand the mystery of the Trinity, but

we can sum it up in the following formula: God is three Per-sons in one Nature. There is only one God, and the three Per-sons of God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—are all equally God, and they cannot be divided.

When we make the Sign of the Cross, we think about God as a communion of love between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God shows his overflowing love for us in Jesus, and invites us to share in his love through the power of the Spirit. During the Baptism of Jesus imagine the outpouring of love as the Spirit descends on Jesus and the Father’s voice announces that Jesus is his beloved Son. Imagine yourself part of that scene.

In today’s Gospel John 3:16-18: “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life...in the name of the only Son of God. ”

This is the one of the most read and quoted Bible verses of all time. (In part by Scott P. Richert/ThoughtCo.)

WHAT IS THE FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM?

Each year Dioceses around the country arrange special events to

highlight the importance of defending religious freedom. The Fortnight for Freedom is from June 21—the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More—to July 4, Independence Day. Watch for future events through the Orlando Diocese that will support Fortnight for Freedom.

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Photo Courtesy of Jon Michael Kondrath

On Trinity Sunday many Christians around the world remember and honor the belief of an eternal God, consisting of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Many churches have special prayers on Trinity Sunday. The Athanasian Creed, named after St. Athanasius, Archbishop of Alexandria, is recited in some churches on Trinity Sunday because of its strong affirma-tion of the Triune nature of God. In denying the divinity of Christ, Arius denied that there are three Persons in God. Ari-us' chief opponent, Athanasius, upheld the orthodox doctrine that there are three Persons in one God, and the orthodox view prevailed at the Council of Nicaea, from which we get the Nicene Creed, recited in most Christian churches every Sunday.

Trinity Sunday was instituted in the year 828 by Pope Gregory IX. This day is notable for being the only major Chris-tian festival that celebrates a doctrine of the church rather than an event in its sacred history. It is dedicated to the Chris-tian belief in the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – and falls on the Sunday following Pentecost each year. The be-lief of one God in three elements is a distinctive of the Christian faith but the early church was plagued by contrary views.

In pre-revolutionary Russia, Trinity Sunday was a grand celebration. Church-es and homes were decorated with wreaths, fresh flowers and grass and sap-lings. It was a time of weddings, and young unwed women would sometimes toss fresh wreaths during the next year. If a wreath floated the woman was destine to marry. If it sank, she would remain unwed. With the coming of communism came the belief that holidays were a way of exploiting the mass-es and preventing productivity. This particular holiday was turned into an ar-bor day. In some churches, the liturgical color is white on Trinity Sunday. Images of the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit depict that there are three elements of one God. The Trinity is sometimes symbolized by a triangu-lar shape formed by three overlapping oval rings or loops, each featuring the one of the following images:

The crown (father) within the top loop.

The lamb (son) within the second loop (clockwise).

The dove (spirit) within the third loop (clockwise).

(By Scott Richert/Thought Co.)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Most Holy Trinity, Godhead indivisible, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, our first be-ginning and our last end, You have made us after Your own image and likeness. Grant that all the thoughts of my mind, all the words of my mouth, all the affections of my heart and all my actions may be always conformed to Your most holy Will. After having seen You here below in Your manifestations and in a dark manner by faith, may I come at last to see You face to face in the perfect possession of You for-ever in heaven. Amen.

Parish Happenings

Lost & Found The parish ‘lost and found’ is located in the parish office during the week, and in the Vesting Sacristy on the weekend. You can ask an Usher for assistance. Please stop by before June 30 if you have lost or misplaced an item. Items may be donated at that time.

chemotherapy, who cannot tolerate scents.

Thank you!

The Church and Cremation

As a Catholic may I be cremated?

YES. The Church’s definite preference is for burial of the body. However, since 1963 cremation has been permitted, although the cremated remains were not allowed to be present during the funeral mass. In 1997 the Vatican gave the bishops of the United States permission to allow the celebration of the funeral mass with the cremated remains present, pro-vided the local bishop permits it.

Do I need to ask per-mission to be cremat-ed?

No, but it is a good idea to discuss your reasons with your pastor. For a funeral mass with the cremat-ed remains present, the local bishop needs to give his permis-sion.

Cremation

When should crema-tion take place?

The Church strongly prefers that cremation take place after the full funeral liturgy with the body. The presence of the body most clearly brings to mind the life and death of the person and better expresses the values that the Church affirms in its rites.

Our Mother of Mercy Outreach Services

It is hard to believe that there are over a million and a half children in Florida who depend on a school lunch to curb hunger. Many children, in Sumter and Lake County equate summer with hunger. When the final school bell rings, these children may face eating only once a day. Our pantry, and the local soup kitchen tries to alleviate hunger, especially for these children.

Can you help these children as well as seniors who may be hungry? When you bring a bag of non-perishable food to church each week or collect food in your neighbor-hood, you are serving God as well as following the exam-ple of Christ, St. Vincent de Paul, and St. Mother Teresa. That can of meat and pasta, fruit, and crackers may be the food that a child needs. Without proper nourishment, children will not develop their brains, bones, and mus-cles. We can help them become healthy, curious, and strong.

Our ministry is an equal opportunity provider with guidelines that assist our volunteers when dispensing food and/or financial assistance.

When we use our talents to serve

God and others, we will be amazed

by the results. Consider becoming a member of one of our ministries by using your time and talent. Food do-nated recently include the Village of Buttonwood, collected by Jim & Marty: Villages of Largo & Rio Grande, collected by Donna & Dick. We thank them as well as regular donors to the pantry.

Together we make a difference in Wildwood!

Food Pantry Requests include the following: canned meats, pasta, side dishes, canned pasta w/meats, spaghet-ti sauce, pork & beans, pinto beans, canned fruit, canned tuna, canned vegetables, potatoes (canned or boxed,) cereal, soup, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, mac & cheese, corn muffin mix, cake mix, pancake mix, crackers, cook-ies, condiments, white rice, coffee, tea, paper products, cleaning supplies and toiletries. Please remember that out-of-date and opened food cannot be distributed.
