As the Covid-19 continues to affect our economy and communities, I want to thank you all for your efforts to keep the virus in check. As I amwriting this,  we currently have 278 positive cases in Polk County, whichcomparatively is a very low number for a county of 86,000 people. PolkCounty is, and has been, very active in acquiring PPE, making it availablefor businesses and housing facilities that run low or are needing certainitems to get through the crisis until their orders arrive. To date, we havedispersed around $82,000.00 worth of PPE, focusing on keeping ourcommunity safe and our businesses running smoothly. We are here tohelp any way we can.Thank you,Lyle MordhorstPolk County Commissioner

2020 Homeless ServicesGap Analysisby Jan Calvin At its July meeting the Mid-WillametteValley Homeless Alliance (MWVHA)Board of Directors reviewed a recentanalysis of homeless resources inMarion and Polk counties. The July 2020Gap Analysis included comparisons to a2018 Resource Inventory that haddetermined four primary needs for theCoordinated Entry System, shelteringservices outside the Salem-Keizer area, expanded shelter options, and housing.Progress is noted in the furtherdevelopment of the Coordinated EntrySystem, expansion of seasonal warmingshelters, and the addition of Taylor'sHouse youth emergency shelter, each ofwhich is championed by Mid-WillametteValley Community Action Agency. Whileaffordable housing continues to belimited, the number of supportivehousing units is expanding, primarilythrough the work of Salem HousingAuthority (SHA). Veteran housingresources have also grown, thanks tothe efforts of SHA, WestCare, VeteranAffairs, West Valley Housing Authority,Marion County Housing Authority, andDallas United Methodist Church'saddition of Gale's Lodge. In addition, theYMCA's Veteran housing project is inthe works. Rapid rehousing services forsurvivors of domestic violence are alsoexpanding, through the Center for Hopeand Safety. However great the progress,we are not close to meeting the need.Thousands of our neighbors remainunsheltered and homeless.  Visit the MWVHA website or attendthe monthly CoC CollaborativeCommittee on the 3rd Wednesdays,10:00-11:30 a.m. to connect with otherswho are working to address these needsthroughout the Marion and Polk countyregion. Hello, I hope this email finds you well, I wanted to reach out to you to inform the community that our services are stillavailable. Since March earlier this year, as community partners, we have been confined to working from home. This meansthat we are currently active and able to help families and individuals with the enrollment process by quite literally filling outthe application on their behalf over the phone and through our own computers. There have been a lot of changes done to thedetermination process of OHP benefits in order to facilitate those that are needing Medicaid during the pandemic. We areable to give determination of eligibility usually right at the end of an application these days when before it would still takeanother step from the processing center. We understand that many families have faced the loss of one adults constantincome or even a decrease in the amount a family is brining home since this all started. We are able to help people reportthose changes much faster than contacting the processing center to save some crucial time given that there were manyfamilies in the past that were right at the income limit for the adults in the family or even their own children. On top of that we do have a community partner that is helping those that are still over the income limit apply within theprivate sector: Federico Corzo - Work Cell: (503) 949-8684 Email: [email protected] OHP Application flyer Spanish & English
