Case Study – National Security Bureau

• DWDM vs. SDH Comparison – traffic scale up

• 4 Node Ring

• Examine the Shelf Layout and Equipment at Site A as traffic is increased from Day 1 to Day 2 to Day 3

• Note : Incremental hardware is shown in RED

In order to achieve this traffic, DWDM filters and an additionalShelf is required at ALL sites.

Conclusion

• When National Security Bureau increases to higher bandwidth (FC-1G, FC-2G, GbE) or has a mix of different types of traffic, the DWDM solution scales efficiently and at a significantly lesser cost than a SDH solution.

• SDH needs to reserve half the bandwidth for protection

• Forecast Tolerant : as NSB grows their network, the Metro DWDM solution will support all major and standard Optical signals.

• Scalability is simple – insert the blade into the shelf.
