Germany it is understood to be a Brunch,

Liebe Mitglieder, Freunde und Förderer!

Ich hoffe das der Weihnachtsmann gut zu ihnen gewesen ist und

das ihr während die Feiertage Zeit mit geliebten verbracht habt.

Die Deutsche Vereinigung hat mehrere Veranstaltungen für das

Jahr 2017 geplannt die alle das 125 Jährige Bestehen des Vereins

fördern.

Bitte versuchen Sie während dieser Meilenstein-Gelegenheit des

Vereins an so viele Veranstaltungen wie möglich teilzunehmen.

Da viele dieser Veranstaltungen in der oberen Halle des Vereins

stadtfinden werden, plannen wir Renovierungen durchzuführen,

darunter die Wände malen und das Ersetzen von Deckenplatten.

Ideen und Vorschläge für die bevorstehende Erreignisse sind immer

willkommen und geschätzt.

Choir News

By the 2me this reaches you all the fes2vi2es will be over and done

with for another year; hopefully everybody survived all the stresses

and the fun!

Our choir received three very welcome early Christmas presents in

the form of three new singers. Greg White already sang with our

tenors at the GSW Christmas party, and two others - Hubert

Kondziela and Rainer Rempel - joined us last Wednesday, the 12th

of December. That is terrific! We sound be<er already. Now if we

could just a<ract a couple of altos!

The GSW Christmas party was very nice, and we enjoyed the

singing. A special thank you to the young violinists that joined us –

so cute and accomplished!

Our Choir Christmas party this year will be in the form of a

luncheon at the GSW. In previous years, everyone came dressed in

their finest, the hall was always beau2fully decorated and there

were readings and prayers and of course songs in every form - solos

and li<le groups and then the usual sing-alongs of our favourite

carols. There was dancing a@erwards and then coffee and home

baking brought by our ladies. There is no doubt that the food will

be great this 2me, thanks to the GSW kitchens, but the rest is up to

us, I guess!

We all wish every one of you, and your families, a healthy and

happy new year!

I hope Santa was good to you and 2me was spent with loved

ones during the holiday season.

The Society has many events planned for 2017, all promo2ng

the 125th anniversary of our club.

Please try to a<end as many events as possible during this

milestone occasion.

As many of the ac2vi2es will be in the upper hall, a makeover

is being planned including pain2ng and replacing ceiling 2les.

Any ideas or sugges2ons for the upcoming events are always

welcome and appreciated.

Happy New Year to all,

2016 has come to an end and we are all looking forward to a new year with

new possibili2es. This is especially true as we will be celebra2ng the long

history of the German Society of Winnipeg in this country, 125 years! The

purpose of the Society has changed over the years from a home for those who

chose to leave their country of origin to a place for keeping alive the tradi2ons

of the German people.

First of all I would like to thank all who have come and supported the club in

many ways as well as the volunteers that are so essen2al to the success of any

venture. We could not remain open without all of you.

We have made changes to the opera2on of the Schanklokal/Pub over the last

year that I think have been beneficial to the Society as a whole. Please

con2nue to support us and offer your sugges2ons for what more we can do for

you. We will con2nue to focus on a menu that is Eastern European centered

and that include tradi2ons that you would like to see passed on to the next

genera2on. Please come and visit and support us in this venture.

Of course the Pub will be the focal point of many 125th

Anniversary Celebra2ons so join us in making 2017 a year to

remember.

Here is hoping that you all have a Healthy & Happy New

Year.

Entertainment Chair Report

Week 1: August 6th to August 12th

Upper Hall Shows:

• Sunday, Monday and Saturday will have an extra 5:00 show.

• All days will have a show at 6:45, 8:15, and 9:45.

Theme: 125 Years - The German Society of Winnipeg

Ambassador:

If you are interested in being an Ambassador (youth or adult) for 2017, please

send an email to Esther. For all youth, the request must come from one of their

parents, along with address, email address, birth date for the youth and phone

numbers for both the youth and a parent.

BilleEng:

We have a German dance group that is interested in coming to Winnipeg and

performing in our pavilion. This is not confirmed at this point. However, to host

them, it is our obliga2on to provide them lodging. Anneliese and I will be looking

for people willing to open their homes and host them during this week. We will

also be looking for some drivers as well. So if you are willing to help with this,

please contact myself of Anneliese. Please contact me if you have any ques2ons

or require more informa2on.

Please Note:

We have hosted dance groups from Germany in the past, 3 2mes to date. As a

result of their par2cipa2on, an increase of Germans were visi2ng the show, as

well as more younger speaking Germans enjoying themselves in the beer tent.

While there are extra costs and work associated with sponsoring a group, it adds

a special flavour and variety to our show. With greater a<endance and

awareness, this promotes our club and what it has to offer. All the undergroups

will con2nue to perform in the show, and friendships resulted between the GSW

performers and those from Germany. Please consider opening your home to

these dancers.

If you want to volunteer in any capacity for Folklorama 2017, contact Anneliese

FOLKLORAMA SONGWRITING COMPETITION

Folklorama is launching it’s first-ever songwriting competition! This contest is open to Folklorama members only. This includes individual members or members in good standing of a Folklorama, performing or organizational member. Amateur and professional songwriters and musicians are invited to participate. The song must reflect Folklorama’s mission of celebrating diversity and promoting cultural understanding, and will, through its lyrics, capture Folklorama’s core values:

• Respect for people

• Appreciation for diversity

• Integrity

• Respect for Culture

Please note that a condition of the competition is that the selected song will become the

property of Folklorama for use in future promotional activities and special projects.

Folklorama will be accepting song entries from January 3 to January 20, 2017.

Deadline for submission is 5:00 p.m. on January 20, 2017.

Happy New Year! I can't believe 2016 is done already. Thank you all for supporting us by buying Sobeys Gift Cards. Our Karneval Conference is just around the corner. Mark January 27 - 29, 2017 on your Calendars. Package Price is $175 for the weekend. Friday is the theme night and the theme is Once Upon A Time at the GSW. Saturday is the formal night at the Victoria Inn. Jason Schreyer is the Master of Ceremonies. Special guests have been invited. Sunday is the Goodbye Breakfast at the Victoria Inn.
