DUW Presentation
Moving on to the WCDMA digital unit, it is important to note that we are moving from the current sub-rack based solution to a modular solution with the digital unit WCDMA (DUW). This change from today’s RBS 3000 base band sub rack, means that we will now have the same modularity as the rest of the RBS 6000 system components, providing more flexibility.
In addition to a more flexible design, we are lifting the platform capabilities and capacity. The system will be hardware prepared to support current and future advances in P8, P9 and forward, as well as providing a large increase in system capacity.
We will of course also continue to develop the functionality in P8 and P9 for the current RBS 3000 base band hardware.
Customers can also opt to complement the existing installed base band by installing a DUW or simply upgrading the entire node B with a DUW, keeping the existing radio units, cabinet, power supply, antenna system etc. for major improvements of capabilities and capacity.
Altogether, this offers more flexibility, more capabilities and greater capacity for Ericsson RBS.

The DUW offers both IP and ATM transmission capabilities.
And again, the unit should be viewed in the context of the RBS 6000 equipped with the optional transport module, to fully support all transport network topologies, capabilities etc.

RBS 6201 – Digital Units
DUW Presentation
The RBS 6000 is more than just a new generation of base station, it is a complete site solution in one cabinet (including radio capacity, power for the RBS, power for other equipment at the site and transmission capability).
In this slide, we have identified the main components of the RBS 6201: the cooling and silencer, two radio shelves, site power and the transmission module.
With the RBS 6000 series, the digital units are an integral part of the radio shelf and not a separate sub-rack. They fit the same modular paradigm as the radio unit for all three standards, providing maximum flexibility.
In this example, we have the digital unit (and radio units) for WCDMA in the first radio shelf and the digital units (and radio units) for GSM and LTE in the second radio shelf, for an RBS supporting all three standards simultaneously.

23Mbps UL L1 througput per RXM
256 HS users per TXM or
384 EUL users per TXM or
128 CE R99 DCH and 369RLS per TXM
192 EHSPA RLS per RXM
New features P8 (preliminary)
Multi-Carrier (MC)
Interference Cancellation (IC)
Reduce interference from high-rate users, which will result in more users per cell and higher cell throughput
UL TDM scheduling

All three variants of the DUW have the same capabilities, the same size, the same modularity and the same interfaces. The only difference is in the base band capacity.
The DUW 10 is suitable for micro RBS solutions or macro base stations with relatively low capacity requirements, e.g. those used primarily to provide coverage. The DUW 30 suits extremely high-capacity nodes such as in a dense metropolitan environment. The DUW 20 provides an option to span the gap between these two extremes.
It is of course possible to give customers the option of buying the hardware outright, it is worth noting that we will introduce hardware activation fees. For example, if a customer is setting up a node that has little traffic now, but is expected to grow rapidly, they can install a DUW 30, but only have the licensed capacity equivalent to a DUW 10 enabled. As traffic grows, they can pay the additional hardware activation fees to access the full capacity of the DUW 30.

The DUW 30 is an example of a major step in both capability and capacity. For example, it can support the above configuration of HSDPA, EUL and R99 simultaneously.
With the existing hardware, we would need the following.
