Manager’s Corner

By Joan Whitehurst

It is with mixed emotions that I write this article.

This will be my last Manager’s Corner, as I will re-

tire as General Manager on April 1, 2016. (No

fooling!)

Except for a few insignificant and short termed

other jobs, and a few years spent as a stay-at-

home mom, I have spent my entire working career

at Dutch Hollow Lake, starting in 1970.

Thinking back to those early days when I was hired

by Branigar, the developer, for my first “real” job.

The Lake was in the early development stages, the

dam was under construction, the clubhouse was

being built, our offices were in trailers. It was a

hubbub of activity, with a large construction staff,

a large sales staff, and prospective buyers every-

where, lined up to get a multitude of free gifts for

touring the property ranging from casserole dishes

to fur coats and $10 gas coupons!

It was an exciting day when the clubhouse was

finished and we moved from the trailers to our

new offices in the clubhouse. I’ll never forget

those brand new shiny yellow desks and orange

chairs! (It was 1971!)

In 1980, the developer was finished, the Associa-

tion had been formed, and I began working for the

Association.

In 1990 I became the Association Manager, and

have been in that position ever since—26 years to

be exact!

From the building of the development, the tragic

fire that burned the clubhouse to the ground, to

the rocky 1980’s when the Lake didn’t fill to the de-

sign level, to the lawsuit with the developer, the

installation of the augmentation pumps, and the

first time the water went over the dam...I have

been here and seen it all!

I can’t think of a better place to spend my working

years! From that first house that was built in the

70’s to the more than 400 houses now in the Dutch

Hollow Community, it has been exciting to see

Dutch Hollow grow and thrive.

But the fondest of my memories are for the people:

the Board, the staff, and most importantly the

members.

Yes, there have been ups and downs and trials and

tribulations among us. There has been stress and

sleepless nights, but there have been so many

more happy times! I can honestly say that I will

miss you all and thank you for being an important

part of my life.

I leave you in good hands. Pam is going to bring a

new spark to the Association, and Don Leeser and

Rachel Greenwood are here to help her every step

of the way.

I am off to a new stage of my life. I plan to sleep

late, read lots of books, travel, and spend time with

my nine beautiful Grandkids.

Farewell, my friends. . .the future of Dutch Hollow

is bright!

2016 Seasonal Dock Application - due by 4/1/2016

Return to: Dutch Hollow Lake P.O.A., E2670 Clubhouse Dr., LaValle, WI 53941

Name: ____________________________________ Lot #: ____________

Type & Size of Boat: ______________________________________________________________________

(Must include length, width and type of boat)

Number by Preference (1st , 2nd, 3rd):

________ Clubhouse marina slip*

________ Barn marina slip*

_________Subdivision Slip (Specify subdivision, i.e. Green Knoll, Summit): ___________________________________

(*Marina docks have no access before 8 a.m. and after 9 p.m. when the main clubhouse gates are closed.)

If you plan to use an Association dock this year for exclusive in-water parking of your boat, you must apply by April 1, 2016. An application must be submitted each year.

All slips will be assigned. Once placement has been determined you will be assigned a specific in water parking spot. All requests will be considered, and cluster docks will be located on the basis of: Number of members requested area would serve; Physical terrain of area; Number of safe and usable docks available. We will work hard to serve all applicants and anticipate this is probable, but there are no guarantees.

The membership seasonal fee for an assigned slip is $235 per marina area slip and $320 for a subdivision slip near your home.

NO OVERNIGHT PARKING IS ALLOWED AT THE MAIN DOCK LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE CLUBHOUSE.

All those that apply will be notified by May 1 of the placement areas, and will need to forward payment in full to receive their current sticker.

Please DO NOT send payment until you are notified of your dock placement.

Important Additional Information for Association Dock Applicants:

1. When assigning slips, priority is given to non-waterfront members, as this is their only opportunity to park their boat in-water. (Waterfront owners may apply for an Association slip, and will be granted one if a slip is available. But, when a non-waterfront member requests a slip in the same area, that member would get the slip before the waterfront owner.)

2. In some areas there is a high demand for slips. It is in your best interest to specify first, second, third choices if you have them. You will have a better chance of getting “a” slip.

3. If there are more requests for slips at any dock than there are slips available, we will hold a lottery drawing for slips at that particular dock.

4. Requests for a particular slip at any dock are not guaranteed. We must serve all members who apply by

assigning slips according to boat type and size. It is important that applicants fill out the application completely and accurately for this reason.

5. Weather permitting; docks are usually in place by May 1st each year. Due to weather and seasonal maintenance schedules, docks will be moved to their winter locations beginning the first week of October. All slips must be vacated by October 2, 2016 to enable maintenance staff to complete this work. $50 per day additional fee will be assessed for any boats not removed by deadline date.

6. Marina docks have no access before 8 a.m. and after 9 p.m. when the main clubhouse gates are closed.

Return application so it reaches the Association office by April 1, 2016.

Sorry, we cannot be responsible for lost or misdirected mail.

Seasonal Dock Applications

Please DO NOT send pay-ment with your applica-tion. Payment will be requested when you re-ceive notification of dock assignment.
