DeWALT’s Perform & Protect™ line of Power Tools is designed to provide a high level of one or more of the following: control, dust containment, or low vibration, without sacrificing performance.

POWERDeWALT’s patented High Performance Motor Design has approximately 40 percent more copper than previous standard motors found in DeWALT High Power Grinders. By putting more copper in the motor windings and armature, the motor delivers up to 50 percent more power, increased overload protection, and increased performance versus DeWALT motors of a similar size.

CONSTANT PERFORMANCESome DeWALT tools feature full electronics which provide the user features such as: 1) Soft start - Controls the initial motor start up so the user can

accurately start their application. 2) Constant Speed under load - Tool doesn’t bog down when being used.

By including features that offer the user control, minimize dust and reduce vibration, DeWALT is dedicated to providing tools which can help lessen worker discomfort.

CONTROLTools can bind up in normal drilling, cutting, or grinding applications which can cause injury to the user or damage the tool. DEWALT’s patented two stage clutch and E-Clutch® System provide enhanced control to the user in a bind up situation and can help minimize sudden torque reaction compared to standard clutches. DEWALT’s High Performance Grinders also have a Power Loss Reset™ feature that prevents accidental re-starts of the tool after a user experiences a power outage such as a tripped breaker or accidental unplugging of the cord when the switch is in the locked-on position.

DUSTUsing a dust control system, like DEWALT’s dust shrouds and dust extractors, can decrease the potential of inhaling dust. These same products can also help increase visibility and reduce cleanup and maintenance costs.

VIBRATIONProlonged exposure or high levels of vibration may cause fatigue and discomfort, particularly in the fingers, hands, and lower arms. DEWALT’s SHOCKS-Active Vibration Control® System found on various DEWALT hammers reduces vibration at the handles compared to hammers without such systems. DEWALT’s new Premium Featured Large Angle Grinders feature Anti-Vibration Side Handles.

DeWALT offers several products that provide the user more control in a bind up situation than standard clutches and side handles provide. With unique systems like 2-Stage Clutch for rotary hammers and E-Clutch for drills and grinders, more control is provided in a bind up situation, and can help minimize sudden torque reactions.

2-STAGE CLUTCHPatented 2-Stage Clutch allows the user to set the clutch to a lower or higher setting depending on the application. Clutch setting 1 (maximum control) is ideal for most drilling applications since the clutch trip torque is 30 ft-lbs. Clutch setting #2 (maximum torque) is to be used for those applications that require a higher clutch torque (i.e. large diameter bits).

When the tool is plugged in or the mode selector is rotated, the unit is automatically switched back to clutch setting #1.

on and off at a rapid rate in an attempt to break the bit free from the material.

2) If the drill is unable to quickly break the bit free from the material, the drill automatically shuts down.

3) The user can then release and re-engage the trigger to return to normal operation.

The system senses the tool’s angular position and velocity, and will respond to low and high velocity situations differently in order to provide quick control when needed, but not be a nuisance in normal situations.

If the user maintains control during a bind-up situation the tool will continue to operate as normal and the E-Clutch® will not activate.

In addition the DWD460 has a mechanical clutch which can activate in low speed/high torque bind-up situations providing an extra layer of control.

HIGH PERFORMANCE GRINDERS1) Grinding wheel becomes pinched or locked up. 2) Tool recognizes the pinched or locked up situation and shuts off. 3) The user can then release and re-engage the switch to return to

normal operation.

The 6" units (D28140, D28144, D28144N) also each have a mechanical clutch to help protect the gears from stripping out during a sudden stall caused by pinching the wheel in the material being cut.

POWER LOSS RESET™ These grinders also have a Power-Loss Reset™ feature that prevents accidental re-starts of the High Performance Grinder after a user experiences a power outage such as a tripped breaker or accidental unplugging of the cord when the switch is in the locked-on position. When the High Performance Grinder is plugged back in or the breaker is reset, the tool will not restart until the switch is cycled (turned off/on).

Power Loss Reset™ also prevents accidental starting if the High Performance Grinder is left in the on position and is then plugged in. In this case, the High Performance Grinder will not start until the switch is cycled (turned off/on).
