Turn back the heart you've turned away aGive back your kissing breath bLeave not my love as you have left bThe broken hearts of yesterday aBut wait, be still, don't lose this way aAffection now, for what you guess bMay be something more, could be less bAccept my love, live for today. a

Your roses wilted, as love spurned cYet trust in me, my love and truth dIt is in fear you turn away eDwell in my heart, from which you've turned cMy strength as great as yours aloof. dAnd miss the chance of love today! e

The sonnet form is old and full of dust aAnd yet I want to learn to write one well. bTo learn new forms and grow is quite a must, aBut I will learn it quickly, I can tell. b

And so I sit, today, with pen in hand, cComposing three new quatrains with a rhyme. dThe rhythm flows like wind at my command. cThe A-B-A-B form consumes my time. d

But I’m not done until there’s fourteen lines. eOne ending couplet, after three quatrains. fI’ve tried to write this new form several times. eThe effort’s huge; I have to rack my brain. f

But I persist, my fourteen lines now done. gI wrote my poem; my sonnet work is won. g
