Oh, yeah, spring is denitely here! As o yesterday, I am nowharvesting the rst ew spears o asparagus in my little garden
out back. I got the starter plants rom a guy on the Gardening in
the Carolinas orum (http://orums.gardenweb.com/orums/carol-
gard/), who said that he had some extras to give away. So now,
three years, Im nally enjoying the ruits o my willingness to take
a chance.
I havent gardened much since the death o my aunt, who I moved
here to take care o. I kept waiting or my nancial situation to
improve, and nally realized that I cant put my lie on hold whilewaiting or things to get better. So, I decided to start gardening
againon a budget, which means using seeds instead o plants.
And, while Im at it, Im going to return to other un activities, know-
ing that i I dont, Im going to look back in a ew years and realize
that I didnt take ull advantage o my time on this Earth. I always
Publishers pitch
wanted to post jazz and Brazilian guitar tutorials on YouTube, so got to it and have posted our so ar.
When I was a little kid, we used to visit my great-grandmother
who had to be placed in a nursing home. I asked my dad why so
many o the people there were sitting around looking so glum
and dejected. He said, Maybe they didnt create enough good
memories to live o o. You gotta go out and create lots o good
memories, so that when you get old, you can sit back and enjoy
them.
I remember that conversation as i it were yesterday. Im 57, and
Id better hop to it! See you next month.

Dr Wiggins, whos the head of North Carolina CentralUniversitys Jazz Department, somehow found the timeto release this delightful 2-CD set. He plays tenor andutes with Baron Tymas (guitar), Jon Metzger (vibes andmarimba), Cyrus Chestnut and Ed Paolantonio (piano),Alvester Garnett and Thomas Taylor (drums), HermanBurney (bass), and Mavis Swan Poole (vocals). A Wigginsoriginal, Shepards Song is a beautiful tribute to thefounder of NCCU; new chords were added to PeopleMake the World Go Round, and they swung the heckout of Killer Joe and Red Top. Great playing and a totaldelight from start to nish.
