You will be spoilt for choice with the array of gastronomic treats on the menu in Durham.

Why not follow in the foodie footsteps of TV’s MasterChef host, Gregg Wallace, who ate his way around the county last year as part of the Britain is Great: Great British Menu online series. Whilst filming, Gregg’s taste buds were treated to traditional dishes, local produce and some of the county’s local beers. Find out more about Gregg’s culinary travels at: thisisdurham.com/gregg-wallace

Take some time out with a tasty homemade treat at a welcoming café or tearoom. Or if you’re striding out in the great outdoors, fill your boots with a hearty home-cooked lunch in a cosy pub. And after a busy day taking in the sights, you will find a range of delicious dining on offer in the county’s many restaurants.

Dine out in style in Durham City as you enjoy great food and drink in the shadow of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Or drink in the breathtaking views of the

Durham Dales as you tuck into local produce in scenic settings. And in the Vale of Durham and at the Durham Coast you will find award-winning eateries and more tantalising foodie experiences.

Lovers of good food will be sure to look out for the Taste Durham Awards mark – a sign of great food proudly displayed by more than 70 venues across the county. Graded to a national standard, the Taste Durham accreditation is awarded in recognition of consistently good service, comfort, cleanliness, quality of food and in addition, championing of local produce.

Join us in October for a month-long celebration of Durham food as eateries across the county celebrate Taste Durham Month with offers, events and special dishes with a local flavour.

Durham has a proud heritage when it comes to quality local

Savour the flavours on your break in Durham, where great food and drink is the perfect accompaniment to your visit.

produce. In the 18th Century Durham City was the birthplace of English mustard, first ground at a mill in Saddler Street, and the county is still home to stand-out local artisan produce and innovative producers. From award-winning cheese and sausage to Teesdale lamb and fish from our reservoirs – all the right ingredients are in place for a real taste of the county.

Don’t miss the opportunity to stock up on some of these local goodies at one of the county’s celebrated farm shops, farmers’ markets or foodie events including the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival, which is held every April. Make a day of it at one of the county’s agricultural shows. England’s oldest agricultural show was first held in Wolsingham in the Durham Dales in 1763, and along with Stanhope, Eggleston and Bowes agricultural shows, makes for a great family day out.

Two food trails will also help you explore the stunning scenery of the Durham Dales and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, experiencing great food and drink along the way.
