    Dear Brothers

    Grace to you and peace

God the Father and our Lord Jesus

    Christf

    who

    gave himself

    for

    our sins to

    deliver is from

    the,present evil

    age,

    according to

    the

    will of

our God and Fatherj to whom b© the glory forever

    and

    ever. Amen.

    (Galatians 1: 3-5)

    January has been

    a

    slow month here.

    We

haven't heard from any of the

    people

    we talked

    to

    on

    the phone last month.

    We are still

    hoping

    and

    praying we will.

    The

    lady

    we made friends

    w i t h

    down the

    hall

    her

    ankle

    and

    has

    been

    living

    with

    her parents

    for

    a

    while. Bible

    club

    attendance

    has

    been

    down. The

    weather

    and

    flu

    have kept children away.

    Steve's

    been pr eaching again on

    Sunday

    mornings.

    He is

preaching a series of sermons from John's gospel.. W e have

    an

    appointment to visit

    with a young couple

    from

    Denmark. We met them

    at

the hospital. Their son was born

    a

    few

    hours before Jeremy.

    We hope

    they

    will

    be

    open

    to

    what we

    have to say,

    The following is our

    report for 1976.

    We thank

    all of

    you

    who

    have provided our

    a

    note of

    This

    occured

    partially because we

    used

    up

    our personal checking

    account

    to help

    pay our

    moving expenses. In_O ctober we

    took

    money from

    our

    savings

    in

    order to

    buy

    snow tires.

    We listed these

    in

    cur

    record

    book

    for tax

    purposes.

    The

    December expenses however do

    not reflect

    medical

    fees for

Jeremy's birth. That has been paid

    from

    our personal

    savings,

    Again,

    we i h

    ink

you for your continued fin nci l

    support.

    We

    also want

    to

    thank

    all

    of

    you

    who have

    sent

    cards,

    gifts

    and money

    for

    Jeremy.

    We

    appreciate

    it

    deeply

and if Jeremy knew what was happening he would

    be

    thankf ul, too.

    Speaking

    of

    Jeremy, he's growing

    like a

    weed. He weighs around

    10| lbs.

    now.

He's becoming aware of h is surroundings and h e seems to have a special interest

in looking at Dad's books. He holds his head up pretty well

    and

    is very strong. He's

    been

    smiling at Mom and

    Dad

a lot lately, too. Crying and eating are still his favor

    ite pastimes. Fortunately for

    Mom

    and Dad,

    he's

    been sleeping

    through

    the ni^t.

    Un

    fortunately, Jere^

    is

    going

    to

    need

    surgery,

    probably

    in

    February.

    He

    has developed

    an inguinal hernia.

    It's a

    common problem but we still

    ask

    for your

    prayers ^gardlng

    him.'

    Steve and

    Rhonda

    seem

    to be ©.K.-,

    except

    for parental

    fatique

    and bouts

    with

    the flu.

    Please

    continue

    to pray for our

    ministry

here. Be praying for the Danish

    i

    couple we are to

    talk

    with

    and for our

    neighbor who broke her ankle

    Please be

    Jerem y's operation

Pray with us that people will open

    their

    minds

    and hearts

    to

    the

    gospel

    of Jesus

    Christ. ^

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with.your

    Dear

    Brothers

    and

    Sisters

    in Christ

    Grace

    to

    you

    and peace from

    God

    our

    Father

    and

    the

    Lord

    Jesus

    Christ.

    (Ephesians

    1:2).

    February has

    been

    a busier month

    for

    us than January. Praise

    the

    LordI

We have met with the young couple from De nmark a

    few

    times now. They have a

    Protestant

    background

and want to find a church here to get involved with. They

    are

    open

    to

    us and

we hope they remain open to the gospel.

    They

    have

    been

    living

    in

    Quebec

    for two.

    years but

    are

    not attending

    any

    church. They

    are confused

    be

    cause of

    so

    many different protestant

    churches

    here

    as

    opposed

    to

    their homeland.

With a little time, teaching, and love we hope

    their

    confusion will pass. Also this

    month Dennis Dilley has

    been

teaching a couple of college-age young people an

    intro

duction to the Old Testament. Steve had the opportunity to give them a

    lesson

    on

    the Canon of

    the

Old Testame nt, and enjoyed it very much.

    Paula,

    the school teacher

    down

    the

    hall,

    moved back to her

    apartment

    this month and we've

    been

able to spend a little time with hor. Rhonda spent a

    da y

    with her baking bread during

    a

    recent Quebec bakers' strike.

    She

    teaches grade si x

at a nearl y elem entary school. Her class had been discussing the American Indians

    and

    they

    began

    talking

    about

    the Indians' belief

    in

    an afterlife.

    A lot of

    questions

were brought up about Christianity, the Bible, God, life after death, and heaven.

    Paula couldn't answer some

    of

    their q uestions

so she got permission for Steve to

    speak with the class.

    The

    children

    seemed

    to

    really

    enjoy it.

    Most of

    them skippe d

    recess in

    order to

    continue the discussion.•

    We talked

    together

    for over

    an

    hour

    and

    a

    half. Steve

    enjoyed it a lot,

    too.

    Paula is

    planning

    to

    teach

    them a few

    lessons

    on

    mora ls and.she hopes

    she

    can get

    permission

    for

    Steve

    to talk with the children

    again about moral

    teachings

in the Bible. We hope this will

    open

    some doors to these

    young

    people

    and

    their par ents.

    They liv e in another

community on the island so it

    would

    be

    great

    to get

    something

    going there.

    We are hoping that we

    can

    get a

    Bible

    study started in

    apartment

    building

    in J f e r c h We

    know

    a

    few people who may be

    interested

    in studying God's Word

    with us so

    hopefully we

    can have

    a

    good

    group.

    We

    are

    looking forward

    to

    Spring too.

    We plan to

    do some door-to-door

    calling

    in Dollard

    Des

    dates

    are

    us

    to come so that we

Thank Him also for Steve s opportunity

    Jeremy s

    Please

    continue to pray

    with

    us for

Danish cou ple , that they will

    accept

    what

    the Scriptures

    the same

    for Paula as

    well.

    Also, please pray

    are 110 apartments in this

    complex

    and

    most of them

    are

    occupied. From

    talking w i t h

    the people we

    thou^t

    several mi ght

    take

    part

    in the

    study. However, our

    nei^bor,

    Paula,

    was the

    only

    one who came. She

    wants us to

    help her

    study the

    book

    of Acts.

    So Friday evenings

    will be spent in

    fellowship w i t h her.

    We are

    grateful

    for her response.

    Our fi rst

    study lasted a couple of

    hours.

    She is very

    Interested

    in

    God's Word

    and Is open

    to it.

    She

    i s anxious

    to

    continue

    the study and

    we are excited about her

    desire

    to

    know the

    truth.

    We

    were saddened

    that no

one else came but we were

    njt very

    surprised.

    We

hope and pray that, w hen we gc calling

    in

    the

    nei^borhood and

    the

rest of Bollard we will have better results.

    In last month's

    we

    informed

    you that we

    baptized

    Paula Stein

    into

    Jesus

Christ. She is a blessing to all

    of

us here. She told us in early

    May that she will

    be

    leaving Quebec in August.

    She

    had been hoping to

    get

    a

    teaching position in

    the

    Sunday

    in May she

    was

    will

    be going to

    It is above

    to

    servant

    for the Lord, we are

    sure.

    There

    are

    no Churches of

    Christ

    or Christian Churches

    in

    the Northwest Territories.

The town Paula is going to

    has

    about 750 Eskimos and

    50

    others, with a

    Catholic

    church, Anglican church,

    and

a Pentecostal church. Paula has mentioned the idea

    of starting a

    Christian

    congregation while she is

    there.

    We do know she will

    share her faith

    with

    ethers.

    We will

    miss

    her in Quebec

    but

    we are

    confident

    that

    God is with her

    and He

will be glorified because of her.

    We

    have

    been able

    to

    share with

    the Danish couple more.

    They are still

quite interested. They have a sister and her husband living here

    also

    and they'd

like to talk with us too. We are

    excited

    about

    their interest and desire to

    know

    God's

    will.

    We

    hope

    and

pray they w ill remain open

    and

    accept

    Christ

    and

    follow Him.

    During

    June

    we have to renew

    our

visa. We do not foresee any

    trouble

    in

    receiving

    new

one. However, the civil servants of Quebec are

    on a French-only strike.

    That

    is, they will speak

    only

    French. We hope this

    will not slow

    us

    down

    in

    getting a

    renewal

    for another year.

    At present, the

    Quebec

government is trying to make a

    law

    forcing

    all

    new

    students

    to

    attend

    French schools.

    The

    only exceptions will

    be if a

Quebec by a business for one year. An English family moving here

    from elsewhere in

    Canada would have to send

    their children to

    a French school.

    So

    far,

this is not very popular with the people.

to ask for help regarding cur needs. He promises to answer our prayers and

    He

    He wants us

    Dear Brothers

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord

    Christian

    Convention is

    rapidly

    approach

    ing/and

    we

    are loo king forward

    to

it. We have been busy this

    month

    preparing

    for

our trip to the States. We will

    be

speaking with several churches as well as

    attending

    the

N.A.C.G. Our display tooth is number 806.

    If

    you are

    attending

    the convention

    be

sure to drop by to see us. We are looking forward to seeing you.

    We

    have

    spent several days

    in

    these last two

    weeks

    in downtown

    Montreal with

    the immigration

    office,

    renewing

    our visa. Our

    new

    visa

    allows us

    t.o.remain here

    until,June

    30» 1978* We

    praise

    our

    God

that we are able to stay.

    We see

    a

lot of hope and possibilities for

    the

    near future here, and especially

    for our second year.

    The

Danish people we have become friends with are interested in study

    ing

    the

    scriptures with us

    now. We were able to

    challenge

    their

    thinking

    so

    that

    they want

    to know

    exactly

    what the Bible

    says about

    Christ

    and becoming a Christ

    ian.

    It

    will take some

    time

    and

    a

    lot

    of

    teaching

    because

    there

    is

    a

    great

    deal

they do not understand. We are presently looking for a

    Danish

    Bible to

    give

    them

    to make their

    om

    rivate

    study easier.

    The elementary schools

    closed on

    June 23•

    Students

    get

    only

    8 10

    weeks of summer vacation. Many

    families

take a vacation trip for most of that

time. Attendance is already beginning to

    fall

in Bible Club. It will be cancelled

    for the summer and continued

    again in September.

    Plans are being

    made

    for a V.B.S.

in August, shortly before school starts. It will

    be

    held in the Dilleys* neighbor

    hood and most

    of

the families should be back from

    their

    holidays by then.

    We

    are

    expecting a good

    group

    of young people.

    At

    this

    time

    we

    would like

    to thank

    Dennis and Debbie

    Dilley

    for the

    use

    of

    their mimeograph machine and

    their

    help with

    the

    printing of our newsletters.

    Since we

    will

    be

in the States during the first part of next month, there

    will

    not

    b e much to report.

    You

    will not be

    receiving

    a letter from u s during

    July,

    Our

August newsletter will include news of our activities during

    both

    months. It should

    prove

    to be interesting.

    we

met with him. He is an older man,

    about

    51* a s i n c e r e p er so n w ho

    deeply

    loves

his Lord. We praise God concerni ng him. He has "begun worshipping

    .at a

    Bethel Baptist

    church

    near

    his home. He

    likes it there

    for

    now b ut we

    hope

    he-will,

    i n

    time, work and worship

    together

    with us.

    V / e

    hope to fellowship with

him as frequently as possible i n the days ahead. Philippe

    lives

    i n

    the Sa int

    Laiarent area

    of

Montreal, not too far from us. He has asked that we keep hi s

    family

in our prayers as h i s wife and children

    are

    not Chr i s t ia n s .

    We

    reported in June

    that we

    were

    g o i n g

    to

    take

    part i n a Vacation Bible

    "School tnrAugusirdir the"Dilleys^—nei ^buiii oud,—but" this was canceiledT"^

    However^

    s ev eral

    new

    familie s

    have moved

    i n to their nei^borhood this

    month.

    So the

Dilleys intend to call on them

    i n

    hopes of getting the children

    to

    attend

    Bible

    Club. We will

    pro"bably

    be assisting them in

    this

    regular

    program

    again

    i n

    the

    fall.

    Person ally, we are do i n g fine. It's b e e n a very busy,

    enjoyable

summer. We took a day to go to "Man and His World," the former Expo '67.

    We

    spent

an entire day there and still

    didn't

    s e e

    it all. It's i n great

    shape

    for b e i n g te n

    years

    old.

    We also

    took a

    Sunday

    drive

    into

    the

    Lauren tien Mountains

    "up north." It

    was

    "beautiful but we were

    surprised

to s e e the leaves changi ng already.

    It must

    b e

    colder

    up

    here

    than

    we realise Jeremy

    But

    h e ' s

    and we

    are

    really proud

    of

    him. ( i n case you hadn't noticed.)

    Thank you

    for your prayers for

    us, especially during our

    travels this

    summer.

    Please keep

    us in

    your

    prayers. Remember Paula Stein, that

    her

    faith

    and

    knowledge

    in Christ

will grow and she will actively

    share Christ

    boldly.

    Pray for

    the Kitchens, that they

    will

    be

    able

    to

    build

up the Church in the^ area. Thank

    God

    with

    us for the fellowship we

    will

    be

    able to

    have with

    them. Please

    put

    Philippe

    Lafarriere

    in

    your prayers

    too, that

    he will continue to grow

    in

    Christ

    and

    be an active laborer

    for

    the Lord here in Quebec.

    Please pray

    that his

    family

    will come to

    accept

    Christ

    as

    well. We*d

    like to

    ask especially that you

    pray for

    God's

    guidance for

    us as we reach out

to those who used to belong to this congre

    gation, to e n c o u r a g e them to unite w i t h

    us

    in C h r i s t

    In September

    we

    will

    have been

    here in Montreal for

    one

    year,

    so

    in

    our

    next

    newsletter

    we will

    reflect

    on

    o i h ?

    past labors and

    outline

    our

    plans

    for

    the

    coming

    year.

    Thank

    you

    for

    your continued interest and

    support

    of our work

    for the

    Lord

    here

    in Montreal.

    Your

    prayers

    for us mean

    more than

    we can

    say

Grace be with you. 1 Timothy 6:21b.
