MATERIALS LIST

• 2.5 Yards Background Fabric or 88, 6” Squares

• 2.5 Yards Various Pinwheel Fabrics or 88, 6” Squares

• 1 3/4” Yard Border and Sashing Fabric (Assuming strips are pieced) OR 2 1/4 Yards for continuous strips

• Scraps for 1/4 triangle cornerstones

• Sizzix Bigz L Die - Half-Square Triangles, 5" Assembled Square

• Coordinating Thread

• Binding, Backing and Batting

Step 1: Cut Fabrics

A. Cut 88 6” squares from both background and pinwheel yardage Assembled half square squares are 5”. Assembled pinwheels are 9.5” Square. Square your blocks if needed. If you reduce the overall size of the blocks, then the sashing and border lengths and widths should decrease as well.

B. Cut triangles from 6” squares using the Sizzix 5” assembled square die

C. Cut sashing and border strips 4x 80 1/2 x 5” strip 2x 65 1/2 x 5” strip

Step 2: Piece Pinwheels Randomly piece 24 pinwheels spinning in one direction.Piece another 16 pinwheels in opposite order / direction.Piece four (4) smaller pinwheels to form cornerstones. Suggestion: To simplify, start with larger half square triangles. Piece the pinwheel blocks, then cut them down to 5” centered at the middle intersection.

Step 3: Piece Panels Piece the first 24 pinwheels into a 3 x 8 block panel. Piece the other 16 blocks into a 2 x 8 block panel

Step 4: Piece remaining 16 half square triangles into a row forming he colored channels to separate the spinning pinwheels.

Step 5: Assemble two pinwheel panels, sashing and channel strip together.

Step 6: Assemble small pinwheels to the ends of long side borders.

Step 7: Attach borders and cornerstones.
