• The RTA awarded the contract to Right Angel Media for the shelters on a Build Operate and Transfer basis.

• RTA will earn Dh17.5 million per annum from the company Right Angel Media.

• The company will earn through advertisements in and outside the shelters and vending machines.

• A total investment of Dh210 million will be made by the investor over the next 10 years.

• The maximum number of passengers a day touched more than 97,000 during Eid holidays while the minimum number was 42,000.

• More than 150,000 Nol Cards (Silver and Gold) were sold during the first 25 days of the Metro and more than 300,000 Nol Red Ticket (single journey tickets) were sold during the same period.

• Dubai has introduced a unified fare structure for mass transport modes. • The city has been divided into five mobility zones to effectively implement the

new unified fare structure. A passenger has to pay more if he travels in more zones.

• Commuters have to pay only once to complete their journey whether they use the Metro or buses or both to reach their destination but there is a certain time limit to complete their journey.

Unified Fare Structure for Mass Transport Modes

• With the launch of Dubai Metro, RTA has introduced Unified Electronic Fare Card (UAFC) known as "Nol Card" (an Arabic word meaning "fare" or "cost of using transport") which is an electronic "pay-as-you-go" system.

• There are four types of Cards

– Gold

– Silver

– Orange

– Red (Single Journey Ticket)

Nol Card

• Fares for the Metro and public buses will range from a minimum of Dh1.8 to a maximum of Dh6.5 for a single journey.

• The minimum fare for the Metro or the bus for a short trip for up to three kilometres will be Dh1.8 if a passenger is using a prepaid card while it will cost Dh2 in the case of using a standard single journey paper ticket.

• The maximum fare for a single journey will be Dh6.5 in the case of using a paper ticket and Dh5.8 in the case of using the card.

• The fares will be valid for trains, public buses and water buses to complete a single journey. This means a passenger using the Metro can continue his trip on buses without paying any additional fare.

Fares Structure

• Single Journey Ticket - A commuter has to complete his journey within 90 minutes with a minimum fare for up to three kilometres. He will be allowed one free transfer between two modes of transport - train and bus or bus and train, within 30 minutes.

• One Zone or Multiple Zones Ticket – A commuter has to complete his journey within 180 minutes and he will be allowed a maximum of three free transfers between the different modes of transport, within 30 minutes of each trip (180 minutes in total) to avoid new fare charges.

Transfer Rules

For an example, if a user wants to travel on Dubai Metro and then take a bus to reach a certain destination, the user has to take the bus within 30 minutes of getting off the train to avoid charges for

the second fare.

• According to the latest RTA figures, a total of 1,316,319 passengers used the Metro in 23 days from its official public launch on September 10 to October 2.

• This breaks down to an average of around 57,273 passengers per day, which is far less than the expected figure.

• The RTA expected to have 59,500 passengers per day per direction but achieved less than half the target.

• More than 180 passengers were slapped fines during the first month of the Dubai Metro operation. Most of the passengers who were fined were found travelling in the Gold Class while using Silver Nol Card, which is good only for the Silver (Economy) Class. The second largest number of fines were issued to passengers who were found eating and drinking in the trains while some got fines for placing their feet on the seats.

• There are about 31 fines ranging from Dh100 to Dh2,000. The maximum fine is issued to anyone pressing the emergency button and using the emergency exits without real emergency. The fines apply on all modes of transport including public buses, taxis and water transport.

partnership with the Med K & K Advertising Company developed state-of-the-art and fully automated public toilet facilities.

• Toilets are fully air conditioned and automated.

• The public pay a rate of DH2 to use the toilets.
