General Specifications
CWDM Wavelengths
Defined by the ITU-T G.694.2, CWDM covers the wavelengths from 1270nm to 1610nm within 20nm channel spacing.
Color Coding for CWDM
For CWDM systems an industry standard color coding scheme is used. Color coded ports is designed to match the latches of CWDM transceivers for simplifying the installation.
Water Peak
For G.652 and G.694.2 optical fiber, the water peak occurs at 1383 ± 3nm within the telecommunication spectrum 1260 – 1625nm. Attenuation at and near the water peak can exceed 2 dB/km, so it is common practice to avoid 1390nm and 1410nm channels.

Dual Fiber Applications
Dual fiber CWDM Mux/Demux transmits and receives optical signals of same wavelengths into two fibers. The CWDM transceiver connected to CWDM Mux/Demux should have the same wavelength as the client port.
The wavelength of the transceiver mainly based on the transmit wavelength of the client port on the CWDM Mux/Demux. Side A should be 1470nm, Side B should be 1490nm.

Single Fiber
Single Fiber Applications
In single fiber applications, CWDM Mux/Demux transmits and receives optical signals of different wavelengths into a fiber in the opposite direction. It utilizes a single fiber for both transmitting and receiving, which reduces overall costs, and increases the capacity of the fiber.
Take the example of a generate bidirectional transmission of wavelength 1470nm and 1490nm below.

III. Special Service
Expansion Port
It is used to add or expand more wavelengths to the network, by connecting it with the line port of another CWDM Mux/Demux supporting different wavelengths.
Monitor Port
It is used to monitor or test the power signal, usually at a 1% ratio, 2%, 3%, 5%, etc, also available. By connecting with measurement or monitoring equipment, such as power meters, spectrum analyzer, or FMT AIU/OPD card, the signal can be inspected without interrupting the existing network.
PS: 18ch CWDM Mux Demux can only be added monitor port due to the full band wavelengths.
1310nm and 1550nm Ports
The 1310nm and 1550nm are actually WDM wavelengths. Many optical transceivers, especially the CWDM and DWDM SFP/SFP+ transceiver, support long-haul transmission over these two wavelengths. By connecting with the same wavelength optical transceivers, these two ports can be used to add 1310nm or 1550nm wavelengths into existing WDM networks.
PS: If 1310nm port is added, the following CWDM wavelengths can't be added: 1270nm, 1290nm, 1310nm, 1330nm and 1350nm;If 1550nm port is added, the following CWDM wavelengths can't be added: 1510nm, 1530nm, 1550nm, 1570nm and 1590nm.
