Dual Credit Programs 2013-14 School Year Report Background Information Dual credit programs, part of the Student Success initiative, have consistently demonstrated positive outcomes for participating students. They are prog rams provided by the Ministry of Education that allow students, while they are still in secondary school, to take college or apprenticeship cou rses that count towards both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSO) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or a Certificate of Apprenticeship. Dual credit programs are intended to assist secondary school students in completing their OSSO and making a successful transition to college and/or apprenticeship programs. Dual Credit Programs are provided by 16 Regional Planning Teams (RPTs) RPTs are partnerships between the boards and colleges to plan and administer the School College Work initiative throughout the province . 70 School Boards All 70 school boa rds with secondary schools offer dual cred it programs. Retention Rate is the percentage of students who participated in the program from start to finish. These students didn't necessarily successfully complete the program (i.e., earn a credit).

The 2013-14 provincial retention rate for dual credit students was 87.5% up from 87% in the previous year.

The provincial success rate for 2013-14 was 88%, a two percent increase from last year's rate of 86%.

Success Rate is the percentage of secondary school dual credits earned out of the total number of secondary school dual credits attempted.

School Within a College Programs

In School Within a College Programs (SWAC), secondary credit courses are taught by secondary school teachers and dual credit courses are taught by college instructors within a collaborative learning community on a college campus. In 2013-14, a French-language RPT offered a pilot SWAC summer program for the first time.
