    INTRODUCTION

Households of today are becoming smarter and more automated. Home automation delivers

convenience and creates more time for people. However, a growth is predicted and the

adoption of domestic robots is evolving. Several robotic vacuum cleaners are available on the

market but only few ones implement wet cleaning of floors.

The developed concept carries a dry cleaning mechanism in the front and a wet cleaning

mechanism in the back. First dust particles are suctioned, afterwards clean water is applied to

a rotating cylindrical brush that mops the floor and lastly the floor is dried by warm air.

The purpose of the project is to implement a dry wet dry cleaning system. The system

    requires to

!. "emove the debris and large particles from the floor.

#. $et clean the floor with fresh water.

%. "emove the dirty water and leave the floor as dry as possible.

    with a proper cleaning result.

&ts study can be divided into three parts

    !. Suction 'leaning

    #. (opping

    %. )rying the floor

    Suction Cleaning:

&t can be e*plained with sipping soda out of a straw. The sipping creates a pressure difference

between the bottom and the top of the straw and the fluid is +pushed from the high-pressure

area to the low-pressure area. acuum cleaners work in the same manner, since the particles

are being suctioned due to the pressure difference.

They work on the /ernoulli0s principle

    $here

p is pressure at a specific point,

1 is density 2constant all over the fluid3,

is fluid flow speed at the specified point,

g is the acceleration due to gravity,

    4 is the elevation level.

The main components that vacuum cleaners consist of

are an intake port, an e*haust port, an electric motor, a

fan, a filter and a dust compartment 2See Figure #.%3.

    $hen the motor

that is attached to the fan creates the wanted pressure drop at the e*haust port the ambient air

is pushed into the vacuum cleaner through the intake port and the particles are suctioned into

the dust compartment. The filter contains holes, which are small enough to stop the particles,

but large enough to let the air go through. The dirty air is filtered and flows through the

    e*haust port.

$hat determines the suction power is the

power of the fan, the shape of the air

passageway and the si4e of the intake port0s

opening. The fan generates the pressure

difference, but if the air passageway

contains obstacles that block the path the

resistance will result in reduced suction

power due to reduced air speed. The

resistance can be a consequence of a full

dust bag or a poorly designed passageway.

The airflow rate 2litre5second3 that the fan

generates is constant, which means that the amount of air that passes through per unit of time

is constant. However, the air speed varies throughout the system and with a smaller no44le

si4e the speed can be increased at the intake port. The increased airspeed provides a pressure

drop, due to the /ernoulli equation, which results in a greater suction power.

    Mopping

(opping is the process of washing the floor with a mop in order to make it clean.

This will be done after suction cleaning is done on that part of the floor.

6 powerful but low rpm motor attached to a circular pad through a shaft on which the

scrubber brush would be attached will mop it.

    4/5

The mops can be made of many kind of material like from clothes or fibres or microfibers.

The motor driving the mop will be of relatively high

torque but low rotation speed connected to shaft

which further drives the pad to which mop is attached.

    Drying

)rying occurs due to evaporation of water by natural convection process. /ut if warm air

passes over the wet floor than the floor can dry in less time as compared earlier due to forced

    convection.

This is achieved by cleaning and recirculating the air which was taken in by suction cleaner

during suction cleaning step. Since the suction cleaning motor runs at high rpm, therefore air

    gets warm.

Thus this air directed toward the wet portion of the floor.

    Advantages

    •  7ormal cleaning and mopping takes much more time, this machine reduces it to

almost half the time required earlier to clean the floor.

    • 'leaning and mopping machines separately would have been e*pensive.

    • Saves power

    • (inimises human intervention and thus reduces labour requirement.

    • )ries the floor quickly.

    Applications

    • &n public places like hospitals, malls and institutions where it is required to frequently

clean the floor and dry it as early as possible.

    • &n Houses with large floor spaces.

    • 6 smaller advanced model of this type can be used to clean mirrors of cars , windows

    etc.

    Cost estimation

For a machine of cleaning width !# inches and length of #8 inches following parts with their

    specifications and costs are required

The scrubber brush is circular in shape that when

    rotates cleans the floor effectively.
