Introduction

Synchronous conveyance of foods using synchronous belts presents a grave problem whenever small radii are encountered in the drive and re-versing rollers. Belts that are glued or welded tend to fail after just a very short period in service; this is due to overloading of the glued and welded seams. IGAT off ers a comprehensive program of FOODFLEX synchronous belts for such situations – products that are manufactured in a single piece.

FOODFLEX toothed belts are stocked in the T5 and T10 pitches. They are then made up to the customer’s specifi cations, in the desired lengths and width, creating a welded belt that is in eff ect endless.

Advantages of the product

Base material approved for use with foodstuff s One-piece version without glued or welded seams No reeling edges in the root Can be used with even the smallest reversing radii Can be delivered in any length A variety of backing profi les can be delivered, suitable for almost every product to be conveyed Particularly hygienic design with sealed edges and surfaces Good resistance to cleaning agents Short delivery times thanks to stocking all the base versions

General

Endless, vulcanized molded belts made of neoprene are specifi cally not approved for use in foods processing. As a consequence, neoprene belts can be used as drive belts only where the drive unit is completely encapsulated. All the available pitches and systems will be found in the IGAT catalog on “RPP Belt Systems”.

Endless molded belts and fl exible belts made of polyurethane may be manufactured of input materials certifi ed as per EU / FDA standards for use in foods processing; these are approved for direct contact with foods. Embedded as the tensile members are stainless steel or aramid stranded cords.

Due to the manufacturing process, using spiral, embedded strands, the types of belts mentioned may be manufac-tured only sleeve noses (depressions in the root) and open-pore edges. These designs are consequently not entirely antibacterial. Where especially hygienic belts are needed, IGAT recommends using the endless welded bulk goods; these are also made up of base materials approved for use with foods.

Molded belts made of polyurethane

IGAT delivers, in pitches T5 / T10 and AT5 / AT10, molded belts made of food-safe PU constituents with either stain-less steel or aramid cords. Molded belts as per FDA standards are manufactured only if a certain quantity is ordered and may be subject to longer delivery periods. Dimensions and technical specifi cations will be supplied on inquiry.

Flexible polyurethane belts

IGAT fl exible belts incorporating FDA-approved components can be made up, depending on the pitch, in lengths of from 1,500 to 22,770 mm. The technical data and dimensions will be found in the current IGAT catalog entitled “Endless Polyurethane Toothed Belts”.

We would be happy to inform you about minimum quantities and delivery periods.

SYNCHRONOUS CONVEYOR BELTS

Neoprene open end belts are approved for use in food processing only if the belt drives are completely encapsulated. Please request our literature detailing the available pitches and performance data.

Open end belts made of white polyurethane are often used for lift applications in the foods processing industry. Details will be found in the current IGAT catalog on “Polyurethane open end belts”.

Specially manufactured for packaging and transporting foods, IGAT stocks a comprehensive line of open end belts made of FDA-approved polyurethanes. The basic PU components, either blue or transparent, are certifi ed for direct contact with goods. The belts are made up with special pitches, with and without sleeve noses, and sealed at the edges. We can provide data on the tensile loads on request.

IGAT open end belts as per FDA regulations can be endlessly welded to form belts of any length. Please observe the minimum lengths, which are shown in the following table.

Additional technical details will be found in the IGAT catalog on “Polyurethane open end belts”.

Toothed conveyor belts

To achieve non-slip, synchronized food conveyance, IGAT manufactures one-piece, extruded fl at belts, made of PU and with overall widths of up to 150 mm, with rows of teeth in T5 or T10 pitches on the inside surface. The rows of teeth on the running surface may be across the entire width or, if desired, only in narrower segments. The side areas of the running faces are intended to achieve perfect sealing of the toothed areas. They are smooth and without rows of teeth.

Properties of the products

Absolutely synchronous movement of the belt One-piece, antibacterial belt design No sleeve noses Rows of teeth may be in T5 or T10 pitch Any desired endless, welded lengths

Since the toothed conveyor belts, due to the combined tracking properties of a fl at belt and a toothed belt, have to be matched exactly to the splined driving shaft, please consult with our applications technology department when designing such systems!

We can provide additional details on the products as well as on the dimensions that are available.

The IG-700 belts are available in three diff erent degrees of Shore hardness (75, 80 and 85 Shore A). The belts can be completed in any desired lengths and widths. Welding devices for various belt widths are available from IGAT on request.

The newly developed IG 700-80 MDC series off ers a conveyor belt made of polyurethane which can be sensed by metal detectors. This largely satisfi es the hazard analyses and critical control point (HACCP) concept.

General

IGAT FDA-approved backing coatings are certifi ed for direct contact with foodstuff s and can be applied to all conven-tional toothed, fl at and V-belts. Depending on the components in the belt, we use professional processes including gluing, welding and vulcanization.

The fi nishes for the backings are kept in stock and thus can be applied at short notice. We combine the coatings – wherever possible – with our FDA-approved basic belts.

In addition to the standard versions made of PU (including cold-resistant compounds), silicone, PTFE and PVC, we can also develop profi led coatings to suit the application. This makes for perfect conveyance of the particular product. The permissible minimum diameters for the sprockets used will be found in the tables that follow.

SPECIAL DESIGNS FOR FOODS CONVEYANCE

Special designs for foods conveyance

IGAT delivers a multitude of belt designs optimized to suit the specifi c application. They are used not only to transport foods but also to package food products. Shown below are some of the special designs, taken from our product portfolio.

Neoprene foams for products of varying sizes

Conveying fi nal products where dimensions vary (such as king crabs and shrimp) is simplifi ed with two belts running in opposite directions and equipped with soft neoprene coating.

We process a diversity of closed-pore neoprene and the surface can also be enhanced with a wear-resistant textile weave. Where there is direct contact with foods, the neopre-ne foam is sealed with slip-proof blue silicone.

Sausage belts with variable profi les

Two-section belt designs with coatings for sausage transporta-tion, in conjunction with small sprocket diameters, tend to fail due to tensile fractures and dislocation of the coating. IGAT off ers for this task belts that are manufactured in one piece. Here the desired diameter of the sausage is milled into the profi les, in the longitudinal direction.

Thanks to transverse profi ling on the back, the belts have no trouble in passing around pulleys of the smallest diameters. We would be happy provide details on request.

Belts with nails to move fi sh and meat

To achieve slip-free transportation of fi sh and meat products, IGAT delivers toothed and fl at belts and vee belt designs with nails inserted. Our applications technology department will be happy to inform you about our manufac-turing options.

SPECIAL DESIGNS FOR FOODS PACKAGING

Packaging foods in fi lms and blisters requires reliable belt designs. The following is just an extract illustrating the IGAT belt solutions designed for packaging use. Please forward to us the details of your particular situation.

Pick-off belts

To handle vacuum-supported movement of fi lms in fi lm-fed bagging machines, IGAT off ers a complete line of so-called pick-off belts featuring a variety of fi nishes and designs. If desired, we can also apply food grade coatings. Detailed technical information can be obtained from the IGAT catalog entitled “Finishing toothed belts”.

Properties of the products Standard belts with T10 pitch, available in lengths of 630, 720, 780, 840 and 920 mm Basic belts made of PU or neoprene, with aramid tensile cords No sleeve noses Cleanly cut holes with the use of water jet technology Coatings with yellow PU, silicone, Linatex, LCN, neoprene Versions without butt joints available Vacuum channels, holes, a gap in the center of the tooth as per your drawings Welded belts for long service life Great wear resistance Quick deliveries as the basic coatings are kept in stock

Vacuum belts

IGAT has at its disposal an exhaustive line of fi nished vacuum belts to handle almost every conveyance task. Our manufacturing techniques let us create any desired hole pattern, coating thicknesses and belt designs.

Even at high belt velocities and at great suction volume, a fi ne-denier wea-ve that promotes slippage can be fi t to the belt’s contact surface.

This concept also minimizes the infl uence of leaked air in the area of the sleeve noses. Please consult with the IGAT engineers in regard to the se-lection and dimensioning of your belt concept. We would be glad to advise you in a personal meeting.
