Dear C

reetings from the Executive C

itteeof the K
erala Society of Ophthalm
icSurgeons!
During the past 3-4 m
onths, I have hadopportunity to attend m
any of the CM
E
programs being held in all parts of K
erala.Som
e of these Continuing M
edicalEducation program
s are extremely good
with very good scientific m
aterial. Theattendance for m
any of these programs also
has been very encouraging.T
he Kerala Society should evolve
methods by w
hich we can get feedback of
many of these C
ME program
s. We can also
keep a list of all the topics that have beencovered in this year’s C
ME program
s andsuggest certain topics w
hich have not beencom
pletely addressed for the subsequentyear. This w
ill give more exposure to a
comprehensive O
phthalmologist. W
eshould understand that the purpose of anyC
ontinuing Medical Education program
isto update a practicing com
prehensiveO
phthalmologist and Post G
raduatestudents of recent developm
ents inO
phthalmology. The know
ledge that anO
phthalmologist gains by attending these
CM
E programs should be of help during his
day-to-day clinical practice. Therefore it isnecessary that w
e get the feedback fromattending O
phthalmologists as to w
hat theyexpect w
hen they come to attend such a
meeting and w
hether our programs are able
to address these issues. It would be a very
good exercise if the Kerala Society is able to
conduct such a feedback analysis andthereby im
prove the quality and content ofC
ontinuing Medical Education.
Meanw
hile I request all mem
bers toattend the next State M
eeting to be held inTrichur in large num
bers and make the
conference a grand success. A new
team of
office bearers will take over the K
eralaSociety of O

sincerely hope that they will be in a position
to move this organization forw
ard.

the popular basic courses. The new

Dear Friends,The new

complaints. I thank all the m

the basis from w

continuously improve and fine tune the

they did
not get

is an issue which w

completely as the only thing w

The most tragic day in m

as my friend, Philosopher and G

as a totally unexpected blowto m

Govt.Service in 1998.
What w
ere your experiences as a P Gteacher and an exam
iner?Very G
ood. I had many years of
experience as a PG teacher. I enjoyed
teaching students and interacting with
them, it w
as a mutual learning experience
and I was also PG
examiner in various
universities inside and outside Kerala.
My students w
ere dear to me and m
yopinion as a PG
examiner w
as that “ alldeserving students should pass”.
You actually started doing phaco afterretirem

to switch over at this age. H

manage this?I alw

ith it. My
initiation into phaco was in 1996 (before
retirement), w
hen M/s A
lcon did a demo
of their machine at RIO
and kept it therefor som

fter retirement, I w

where
I was trained by D
r.Osher the intricacies
of Phaco. Since my elder son B
ipin issettled in C
incinnati, I could continuem

uring the initialstages, I w
as also experimenting various
stages and types of phaco in Goats eyes

technique,, I also visited the AIIM

You can buy a machine or equipm
