Description This course provides a sound understanding of the scientific, engineering and management aspects that relate to the disciplines of drilling and well engineering. This course has been designed to educate the next generation of drilling and well engineers, and has evolved in response to the developing needs of the oil and gas industry. It focuses on the concept of effective well construction, and aims to develop high levels of professional competence in the key areas of well design, drilling and operations management. Each module comprises approximately 40 hours of lectures and tutorials. Considerable additional directed and private study is expected for each module. This course has been accredited by the Energy Institute.
Aims This specialist course has evolved in response to the changing needs of the industry and is designed to:
← develop a critical approach to the implementation of drilling and well engineering
← provide a broad and sound understanding of the scientific, engineering and management aspects related to selected areas of effective drilling and well engineering
← develop and utilise skills in integrating knowledge drawn from different subject areas through coursework, case studies, research and project work
← encourage innovative thinking, which can be applied to the discipline of drilling and well engineering
← develop initiative, creativity, inter-personal skills and a high level of independent critical judgement at a level appropriate to a Masters degree

Support Facilities
Research activities and close collaboration with industry underpin course and project work. Delegates on online modules are provided with a support team including an online tutor, technical support team and administrative support. UK based delegates have access to a postal library loan service.
CareerOpportunities
The course is aimed at practising drilling and well engineers. Typical students include those working in oil and gas companies, energy companies, national oil companies, engineering firms and project service companies. Graduates of this course are now employed in every oil producing area of the world and work for many of the oil majors and drilling contractors.
EntryRequirements
Applicants should have an honours degree in Engineering or a related discipline. Those with other qualifications, but with considerable appropriate
industrial experience will be considered. All international students for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course.
