Art Inspiration Sources

• Life – Drawing from things actually in front of you– Observational

• Photos– Drawing from a photo reference– Representational

• Imagination– Drawing from ideas inside you own head – Fantasy or Memory

Assignment

• You will plan and create 1 drawing form each category life, photo, imagination

• You will use drawing techniques we have learned in class or one you research as a part of your planning

• Each project will have 1 planning day and 5 work days

Techniques

• Pencil – shading• Pen – contour series or with shading • Pen with watercolor or ink wash *• Colored pencil• Charcoal *• Markers (stipple drawing in color or black and

white) *

*not covered in class but demos and instruction with be available

Life

• Still Life– A group of objects– There will be 3 to draw from by your next class

• Self Portrait– Using a mirror

• Object– Must be HERE

• Interior/Exterior View– Classroom or out window

Photo

• Self portrait (grid transfer)• Animal/Insect• Object• Landscape/Cityscape

Photo Parameters

• Copyright free Images ONLY– Your own photos– Morguefile.com

• You must use rather than copy the photo– Crop– Use multiple photos to create one new drawing– Simplify

Imagination

• Characters and creatures• Fantasy Landscape• Surrealism• Self portrait with fantasy or unreal element• Optical Illusion• Tessellations and transformations

Planning Process

• Decide on Inspiration Source– Life*, photo, imagination– *recommended first project source

• Locate and identify subject – What are you drawing & your source

• Decide on technique– How are you creating your work?– Practice in your sketchbook

• Check off plan and get needed supplies• Begin Project
