Organek Living manufactures Shaver Shebang, a money saving replacement forBraun Clean & Renew. We’ve become experts on some of the idiosyncrasies and potential defects of Braun self-cleaning razors and the cleaning bases.

The drainage systems that remove the debris from the razor can become compromised in at least two ways. This document provides step-by-step instructions on how to fix these issues.

This document contains two sections. The first helps clear clogged drains and the second fixes drainage issues caused by pressure buildup. Most people should only have one of these problems.

The first section is based on a Series 5, but still provides useful guidance for theSeries 7.

CLOGGED DRAIN

I recommend taking photos of each stage to assist with reassembly. Here is how to open the caseof a Braun Series 5 cleaning unit:

1. Remove the shaver. Unplug the cord from the rear of the cleaning unit, press the release buttonto raise the top, and remove the cleaning cartridge.

2. With the top still raised, turn the unit over and look underneath it. Notice that there are four tabs around the inside edge which lock the housing in place.

3. Here is one of the four tabs holding the housing in place. Note also the clear drain tube nearby (this is where the blue LED is concealed). Using a long screwdriver or your fingers, slightly push each tab inward while gently spreading the gap between the base and the housing until each tab clears the flange that it is holding.

4. To fully remove the housing, press the release button and the start button, and press in on the bottom of the oval piece holding the power plug so that the housing can clear them.

5. In the center of the above photo, notice the clear plastic drain and the triangular vent pipe standing above it. The long vent tube is directly behind it and rises alongside the cleaning chamber, just behind the release button.

6. The above photos show the long and short vents viewed from above. Inspect both vents for clogs and clean them with a toothpick. It might be necessary to remove the cleaning chamber, which is attached by a single Phillips screw underneath. This is a good time to clean out any otherresidue using a moist q-tip.

7. Reassemble in reverse order, making sure that the buttons and tabs snap into their proper places.

PRESSURE BUILDUP

These instructions were provided by a customer who started with the above instructions. His problem was pressure buildup, so he had to go further. He has a Series 7.

I found that the vent was clogged with foam. I couldn’t understand why the foam wasn't draining. Well, I found out it was pressure building up in the drain side of the cartridge causing air pockets in the vent from the foam. On the series 7 razor clean base, the vent/drain is sealed to the cartridge by a rubber seal on the bottom of the drain. You can easily remove the seal with out damaging it, and this allows the pressure to vent around the drain. After removing the seal, I havenot had one problem. I have included a photo of the drain with the seal, seal removed and the seal by itself. I don't know if this seal feature is used on the other Braun models. On the cleaning instruction photos you sent me, Its looks like the series 5 cleaning base uses rubber drain tube. I hope this helps if you have any other customers with a similar concerns, and I think this could be misunderstood as a clogged drain. If the drain was clogged you would have the same outcome . Sorry, the pictures are a little out of focus. The cleaning base was apart when I took the photos, and you don't have to take apart the base to remove the seal.
