babyREFLUX has been making wedges for specialist cot sizes
since 2008. Our experience with wedges is unrivalled.
We have found over the years that the length of time to make a
wedge in the factory can be too long for parents to bear, so we have
designed this “how To’ guide, giving you instructions so that a
wedge can be created at home.
We have also created a video to follow, which can be found on the
babyREFUX YouTube channel: ‘babyREFLUX Create your own Made to Measure Wedge’
CREATE YOUR OWN WEDGE
What Foam do I use? We have two styles of cot wedge in our store. The Lift Safely Wedge
which has a cover and is placed on top of the cot mattress and the
Wedgehog, which is placed underneath the mattress.
We recommend you use the Wedgehog to make your own wedge
from, as it does not have a cover and is easy to work with. This
means your made to measure wedge will be used underneath your
baby’s mattress to provide the elevation.
All you need to shape your wedge is a sharp knife similar to a
crafting knife or a stanley knife, a protective non slip mat or surface,
a ruler/tape measure and pen/pencil.
Tools
Here are a few simple instructions to make the process as safe as
possible;
Place the foam wedge on a surface you can easily reach,
which has a protectective surface which won’t allow the
wedge to slip.
Ensure you use the sharp knife according to the
manufacturers instructions, to avoid cutting yourself.
When cutting the foam, use a slow, gentle slicing action.
It is better to move slowly through the foam several times,
than have one go with a lot of pressure, causing the knife or
foam to bounce back at you.
Discard any small pieces fo foam which are left behind at the
end, to avoid a choking hazard.
Safety
“Little Leo suffered from bad reflux and it was recommended we raise his cot at one end so he sleeps at a slight slope…I came across the wedgehog which was absolutely perfect for his cot. It raised his upper body to a comfortable angle and no more scary phone calls to the ambulance service.”

Some cots or cribs are narrow or shaped and have non-standard
width dimensions. Babybay, Troll, Side Sleeper, Anya, Chicco,
Bloom, Sophie, Stokke and Space savers to name but a few. This
means the wedge needs to be customised to match.
If you search www.babyreflux.co.uk for the DIY Cot Wedge, you
can purchase the right size foam wedge, to work from.
Creating your own wedge is a simple process. All you need to do
is follow the video tutorial on the babyREFUX YouTube channel:
‘babyREFLUX Create your own Made to Measure Wedge’.
Getting started
“This Wedgehog is an excellent product, does what it says.” “Gives the cot a really good and safe incline.”
The pictures in this section show the process to create your on
custom wedge.
You can also find the video on YouTube: ‘babyREFLUX Create
your own Made to Measure Wedge’
We have a video showing you how to shape your wedge, if you have a rounded end shaped cot. The process of cutting
stays the same, but you also need a template guide, which we
show you have to create.

Measure the
amount you want to
remove from your
Wedgehog, equally
along the wedge.
Mark your
measurement with a
dot and lightly join
them with a pen, to
create a cutting line.
Starting at the thick
end of the wedge,
use your sharp knife
to score along the
line slowly and
gently, allowing
small pressure on
the foam. (a sharp
knife should only
need to score three
or four times on the
thickest part of the
wedge.)
Separate the two
sections carefully,
making sure you
trim any small fibres
that are still
attached.
