Selecting a Vice President: Balancing Politics and Prudence

Friday, April 22, 2016 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ET

The vice president is “one heartbeat” away from the presidency, yet presidential nominees entrusted with extraordinary responsibility for this choice only have a short time to find, vet, and select their running mates. Politics will be a part of that decision, but the selection must be capable of taking on the key role that vice presidents have increasingly come to play, and able to assume the office of president if necessary.

With BPC’s guidance, a panel of experts with experience in different facets of the vice presidential selection process have been meeting to consider the challenges that face presidential candidates in making this decision. At this event, they will present for discussion their conclusions and actionable recommendations for the campaigns to consider as the time for this critical choice rapidly approaches.

Bearing Witness to Genocide: The Plight of Religious Minorities in Iraq

Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 7 p.m.

Annenberg Theater at the Newseum

555 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

This program is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

To many Americans, ISIS is a terrorist organization responsible for deadly plots in Paris and Brussels,

for beheading westerners, and for threatening America's security. The US government has also

recently declared the group a perpetrator of genocide. In the summer of 2014, ISIS committed

genocide and crimes against humanity against ethnic and religious minorities in Ninewa province in

Northern Iraq, decimating millennia-old communities and irrevocably tearing the social fabric of the

once-diverse region.

Distinguished experts in law and human rights will discuss the US Holocaust Memorial Museum's

recent Bearing Witness report on Iraq, which documented crimes against Yezidi, Christian and other

ethnic and religious populations in Northern Iraq. Panelists include:

What About Us? A State of the Millennial Policy Forum

What obstacles are young Americans facing? What key initiatives and reforms would remove the

barriers that are hindering success?

Millennials are plagued by high debt, low wages, and often are worse-off than previous generations.

But while the problems we face are colossal, the opportunities are endless when we unite to make

America a better place for our generation and generations to come.

Generation Opportunity and the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political

Management along with Generation Progress and Rock the Vote want to open up the floor to those

who are affected most by these barriers to opportunity – Millennials. Join us in an open dialogue with

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) and representatives from our organizations to discuss issues that impact

YOU.

Topics to be discussed include, but are certainly not limited to:

Working to make higher education more affordable and available to all

Fixing the broken American Criminal Justice System

Securing opportunities for our future

Lite food and beverages will be served at the pre-event reception at 7:00 PM and the program will

begin promptly at 7:30 PM.
