Neuropathology is a subspeciality of anatomic pathology that has evolved rapidly over the last century. Though histomorphology has been the gold standard for diagnosis of most of the entities in neuropathology, advancements in the field of molecular data has given us a better understanding of biology of brain tumours and greater insights in terms of diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic value.The WHO 2016 classification of tumors of the nervous system too echoes the shift in approach to integrated diagnosis of brain tumours, which includes the phenotype and genotypic information.
The key factor for success and implementation of this integrated diagnosis isa multidisciplinary approach. We can ensure the appropriate and personalised patient care of brain tumor patients by working as a “TEAM” includingneurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropathologists, medical and radiation oncologists.
We at Aster Medcity hospital take great pleasure inviting you to‘Aster Neuropathology Update 2017’, jointly conducted by the Center of Excellence in Neurosciences and Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine on 26th August 2017. This update will focus on a discussion of the WHO 2016 classification of brain tumors including difuse glioma, pediatric glioma and embryonal tumors. This will be of great interest to all interested in neuro-oncology, including pathologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons, medical and radiation oncologists. Trainees will find this particularly interesting to improve their understanding and implementation of the current classification of brain tumours. The event will feature scientific talks & slide seminars by eminent Neuroapthologists in the country, interesting case presentations, and multidisciplinary discussions of neuro-oncology cases involving neurosurgeons, radiologists, pathologists, medical & radiation oncologists.
