Leaving the gaps as they are

Not every tooth that you have missing needs to be replaced. Some teeth are unopposed by other teeth and do not play a part in your chewing function. Some other teeth cannot be seen and you may not be too concerned about replacing them.

Dentures

Dentures are removable appliances and so can be removed when you like and this is usually at night time. They are constructed from either metal (cobalt chrome) or plastic (acrylic). They are an economical choice.

3Bridge work

Bridge work

Bridges are fixed in place and are held in place by your teeth. This usually involves a degree of shaving down of the teeth on either side of your gap. The bridge itself is usually constructed from porcelain with a crown on each of the prepared teeth fused to a tooth filling the gap.

Bridge work

This can be a good choice in the right circumstances and you can discuss with your dentist the possibility of this.

Implant placement

Implants are like Titanium raw plugs that are placed in the bone under your gums. They act as replacement roots and hold the overlying crowns in place.

Implant placement

Implants can offer a very good option for the replacement of your teeth. You need to have a detailed consultation with your dentist who needs to elicit a number of details from you and carry out a detailed examination to make sure sufficient bone is present for placing the implant.

Implant placement

Single tooth implants – This is a situation where there is a single missing tooth and a single implant is placed to replace the missing tooth.

Implant placement

Implant bridgework – This is a situation where there are a number of missing teeth and multiple implants are placed to replace them. Not every tooth needs to be replaced with an implant, for example if there are three missing teeth, two implants can be placed and bridged across.

Implant placement

Implant retained dentures - Removable dentures can be constructed and retained by components in the implants that click into your denture. This has the advantage of fewer implants being needed and the ability to remove the denture and so ensure it’s kept clean. It is also a more economical choice than implant bridgework.
