As an expert in the field of Water and Environmental Engineering, I have being

participated in several conferences with the Environmental and Water Resources Institute since

2011. The EWRI conferences and events are not like any others because it provides an extensive,

comprehensive and updated knowledge in the field of water and environment. The conferences

organized by EWRI are also distinguished by the participation of highly number of qualified

international experts from both academic and industrial fields. Thus, participating in any EWRI

event is an honor.

The EWRI annually invites Visiting International Fellows from developing countries to

participate in the annual World Water and Environmental Resources Congresses in May of each

year. I participated in the EWRI congress 2015 where I was presenting my work. Hence, I decided

to submit my VIF application for the following EWRI Congress held in West Palm Beach in 2016. I

cannot explain my feelings when I knew that I was selected to be one of the VIF awardees in the

EWRI 2016, and it was awesome to have Mr. Paul Bizier as my host. I would like first to gratefully

acknowledge all the EWRI staff for selecting me this year and for their invaluable effort to make

the 2016 EWRI congress unforgettable. I am especially thankful for: Dr. E. Zia Hosseinipour (Chair

of VIF), Mr. Brian Parsons (EWRI Director), Dr. Cristiane Queiroz (Co-Chair of VIF and EWRI Vice

President), Dr.Steve K. Starrett (EWRI President Elect), and Mr. David Dee (EWRI President). I

would like to express my heartfelt thanks and my deep gratitude to my wonderful host Mr. Paul

Bizier (EWRI Past President) and his wife Mrs. Beth Bizier for their support and kindness.

While attending the 2016 EWRI congress, I had a lot of professional, technical and cultural

activities. I started with my cultural activities in New York on May 17 and May 18 where my wife

and I visited the liberty statue and the central park. We also watched one of the amazing theaters

in the broad way. Then we arrived Nashville to meet Mr. Paul Bizier and his decent wife Mrs. Beth

Bizier who hosted us in their lovely house. Paul organized for me several technical tours in

Nashville. We visited together a small wastewater treatment plant and the Nashville City

Wastewater Treatment Plant with its anaerobic digestion unit. I had the opportunity to visit and

have technical discussions with Paul’s team at his office at BWSC. It was a great opportunity for

me and my wife to explore Nashville which I can say it is one of best attractive sites in the world

due to it calmness and friendly people. We visited the civil war related sites (Carnton Plantation

and the Battle of Franklin) and we watched the amazing RODEO show. We moved then to West

Palm Beach to attend the conference on May 21. On May 22, we had the welcoming VIP dinner

with the other VIF awardees and the EWRI governing board. On May 23, I was honored to receive

my VIF award in a pleasant ceremony for the 2016 Visiting International Fellowships awardees.

On May 25, I presented my latest research work entitled “Odor Treatment for Advanced

Wastewater Treatment Technology” in the technical plenary session “Innovative Water,

Wastewater and Stormwater Treatment“. On May 26, I have participated in the Wastewater

Engineering Technical Committee (WWETC). Also, I attended several plenary sessions in the

conference and had discussions with many of the participants. I had also casual technical

discussions with the other VIF awardees from India, Iran, and China. We then moved to Orlando

for other technical and cultural activities. Paul and I have visited the Reedy Creek Improvement

District WWTP at Disney Land. Finally, my wife and I had great time at Orlando where we visited

the Universal Studios and the Sea World.

Finally, I would like to encourage researchers from developing countries not only to

attend the EWRI conferences but also to apply for the VIF award. The VIF award together with

the EWRI congress is unique due to the vast technical and cultural activities that are provided. It

gives a great opportunity for researchers to exchange technical ideas and activities

internationally.

International Council (IC) of American Society of Civil Engineers’ Environmental and

Water Resources Institute (ASCE-EWRI) established the Visiting International Fellowship

(VIF) program to increase the participation of water resources and environmental

professionals from developing countries and to promote sustained professional and cultural

exchange. VIF award provides visit of the fellow to USA and a unique opportunity to interact

and understand the problems of developed and developing countries in the area of

environment and water resources. It helps the fellow to the latest development in both

technical methods and instrumentation. I came to know about this fellowship by my Ph. D.

guide Professor Rajesh Gupta, VNIT, Nagpur who received VIF award in 2013 at Cincinnati,

Ohio and by Dr. Aditya Tyagi Principal Technocrat, CH2M HILL, Austin during his visit to

India in 2015. Based on my research work and publications in Science Citation Index

journals in the field of Environmental System Design and Modelling, he encouraged me to

apply for VIF award and accepted to be my host. Due to his continuous guidance and

encouragement, I applied for VIF award in September 2015 and received award letter in

October 2015 for the fellowship award of 2015-2016.

I was excited and honoured to receive VIF award on May 23, 2016 from Brian K

Parson, the Director EWRI. I take this opportunity to thank my host Dr. Aditya Tyagi for his

constantly support and encouragement for this award and also provided all necessary

support during my stay in West Palm Beach. During the congress, we discussed various

issues of environmental and water resources engineering. He explained his research work in

the field of reliability engineering and introduced me with various technical committees and

expert. He is a fantastic host who really take care of me like a family. I am also thankful to

Ms. Veronique Nguyen and Dr. E. Zia Hosseinipour for their continuous updates and support

during the congress. It was difficult for me to attend the congress and visit USA first time

without this fellowship.

more than sixteen years old award, given to the outstanding researchers and professionals of

developing countries in the world. The award has been instituted to increase the participation

of developing countries in ASCE EWRI Congress and foster sustained professional cultural

exchange between the participants.

The idea of making application of VIF award for ASCE-EWRI-2017 Congress, was originated

when I met my current host Dr. Aditya Tyagi, Principal Technologist, CH2M HILL, Austin,

USA, during ASCE EWRI Congress 2016 at West Palm beach, Florida. Dr. Aditya had

encouraged me to make application for VIF 2017 award. He has always been source of

inspiration and encouragement for making the application and writing Technical paper for the

ASCE-EWRI Congress 2017. During the congress, he took my personal care like my own

family member. While staying together, we had discussed several research areas of common

interest in the Water Resources, for possible collaboration in near future. In short, I can say, he

has been excellent host during my participation in ASCE EWRI Congress 2017 at Sacromento,

CA, USA.

Brief description of activities undertaken by me during the ASCE-EWRI Congress 2017 and

Post Conference tour is reported in the following Paragraphs:

May 20, 2017
