Dr. Schenker is Sen- ior Associate Dean of Yale College and Dean of Ac- ademic Affairs. He received his doctorate in English Literature from Columbia University. Before coming to Yale he taught at Columbia, New York University, and Trinity College (Hartford). He is a recipient of the Wilbur Cross Award for Outstanding Humanities Scholar, presented by the Connecticut Humanities Council. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Friends Room. On Monday, October 29, Old Man’s War by John Scalzi will be the topic of discussion, followed by a discussion of The Force by Don Wins- low on Monday, November 26. All are welcome to join these discussions. Copies of all of the books are available to borrow at the library. * * * * * * Liz O’Connell, a master gardener with the UConn Extension Master Gardener program, will kick off Hamden Public Library’s fall DIY series with a presentation on Putting Your Garden to Bed for the Winter on Tuesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. Her illus- trated lecture will be followed by a question and an- swer period. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, pro- fessional organizer, Anita Taylor will give advice on how to Declutter! your home or office. The following week, paranormal author Sydney Sherman returns to Hamden Library to speak about Understanding Your Aura, on Tuesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. All three of these programs will be held in Thornton Wilder Hall in the Miller Cultural Center. The final program in the How-to series will feature another popular presenter, Connecticut’s “Coupon Lady”, Gina Juliano who will share her tips on how to De-Stress Your Holiday Shopping on Wednesday, November 28 at 7 p.m. in Miller Library’s Friends Room. Hamden Public Library’s Book Discussion

Group kicks off its fall season on Wednesday, Sep-

tember 26 with popular guest speaker, Dr. Mark

Schenker, who will lead a discussion of Kate Atkin-

son’s bestselling Life After Life. Dr. Schenker is Sen-

ior Associate Dean of Yale College and Dean of Ac-

ademic Affairs. He received his doctorate in English

Literature from Columbia University. Before coming

to Yale he taught at Columbia, New York University,

and Trinity College (Hartford). He is a recipient of

the Wilbur Cross Award for Outstanding Humanities

Scholar, presented by the Connecticut Humanities

Council. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the

Friends Room. On Monday, October 29, Old Man’s

War by John Scalzi will be the topic of discussion,

followed by a discussion of The Force by Don Wins-

low on Monday, November 26. All are welcome to

join these discussions. Copies of all of the books are

available to borrow at the library.
