Dr. Harsh Vardhan was elected by the Vidhan Sabha Assembly

elections in 1993 from Krishna Nagar. He was given the health

ministry by the high command.

He dramatically change the HEALTHCARE SCENARIO of Delhi

by making sure transparent allocation of funds and execution of

all central and state healthcare schemes.

In October 1994 Dr. Harsh Vardhan realized that half of the

worlds Polio population resided in India. He understood the

problem and saw a growing need of anti polio campaign.

This was the time when he came up with the „PULSE

POLIO‟ campaign to prevent polio transmission in India.

He came up with the slogan „2 boond zindagi ki‟ and

involved more than 400 NGO‟s, health ministry and World

Health Organization for fighting Polio.

And his efforts finally paid of on January 13 2011, the last

polio case to be detected in the country.

At present India is POLIO FREE. This model was

replicated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan in various other

developing countries of Asia, Africa and South America.

For his efforts Dr. Harsh Vardhan received International

acclaim and accolades. His efforts were widely

appreciated by Mr. Bill Clinton, the then President of

USA.
