He is Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the areas of Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Addictionology and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is the founder and Medical Director of Avenues to Recovery and provides weekly groups on the medical aspects of chemical dependency. He was also one of the first government approved physicians in western Virginia to prescribe Suboxone and he continues to provide Suboxone therapy and is known for his discretion and the high level of accountability that is required by participants in his programs. Dr. Desai has always been a fore runner in the treatment of addiction and has always incorporated a holistic and global approach to treatment.

ADULT AND ADOLESCENT OUTPATIENT FOR CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY (IOP)A discreet way to address your substance abuse concerns while maintaining employment and repairing family relationships. This is a 10 week program which meets MWF from 6pm to 9pm. It includes process group, relationship group, music therapy, acupuncture, tai-chi, psychoeducation, yoga and an introduction to the 12 steps.

DBT (DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY) GROUP FOR ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTSYaloms skills based group for treatment resistant individuals including all Axis I and Axis II diagnosis. This comprehensive program includes a clinical team, skills classes, individual therapy and phone coaching. It covers 5 modules; core mindfulness, emotion regulation. Distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and walking the middle path.

ADULT SURVIVOR GROUP16 week group designed for individuals of both genders who have experienced childhood sexual trauma, The focus of group is on the Here and Now issues involving triggers, relationships, trust, self concept, self care and lifestyle.

SUBOXONE PROGRAMSBuprenorphine detox and maintenance for opiate dependency. Weekly group required in order to promote accountability and to provide therapy and a foundation for recovery

ADOLESCENT RELAPSE PREVENTION GROUP10 weeks 6pm-730pm on Tuesdays--designed to treat those adolescents who have gone through treatment or who are court ordered to receive prevention and /or education.

Assessments and individual counseling also available.
