The global lockdown imposed by the current covid-19 crisis has drawn our attention to the critical role of education and learning not only as levers of change but also as cornerstones of survival. The epic battle fought by health services worldwide and their discovered inadequacies, in addition to the unprecedented technological advances that have enabled the remote flow of goods and services clearly highlights the primordial role of learning and innovation in navigating similar crises. Yet, this pandemic has also put education systems and institutions to an unprecedented test. As schools and institutions closed down for social distancing and confinement, education institutions had no other choice but to virtualize all their activities. Educational systems that were not ready for such a transition were confronted with a myriad of unprecedented challenges. Higher education In Morocco has been no exception. Both students and teachers had to go through the challenges of handling distance learning. Towards the end of this unique experience, a number of questions have been raised about the agility and responsiveness of higher education during this period of transition. To what extent have all stakeholders been engaged in responding to the crisis and generating appropriate solutions? How have higher education institutions handled the change? What type of leadership is needed in higher education to deal with the challenges and opportunities of the post-covid19 era? how Can our higher education systems be revamped not only to adapt to a similar crisis but to generate innovative solutions? Obviously, the challenges with which higher education is beset today in the Mena region and around the world raise questions about the vision, the roles and the practices higher education needs to adopt so as to lead the positive transformation we all aspire to. A well-thought out vision for higher education will benefit future generations and societies at all levels. In a digital world faced with unpredicted challenges, learning and research should become a priority. Providing future graduates with the required skills and competences will enable them to safeguard current global achievements and embrace positive change. The objective of this Visio-conference is to call for further reflection on issues related to higher education in the MENA region and around the world so as to draw lessons and implications from the present crisis. The focus will be on answering one major question: how can higher education lead positive transformation and prepare future generations for the global challenges ahead?
