Product description

5 OperationThe X-ray sensor is connected to the computer via the sensor cable The sensor is placed and activated via an imag-ing software (e g D-Tect) During the X-ray procedure, the x-rays are re-ceived by the scintillator (luminescent material) installed on the sensor and are converted into beams of light These light beams are recorded by the sensor as image information, digitalised and transferred to the computer If an error oc-curs during the transfer, the image information is sent again No further X-ray image is possible during data transmission

Combining devices safelyTake care when connecting units together or to parts of other systems as there is always an ele-ment of risk (eg due to leakage currents) i Only connect units when there is no danger to the operator or to the environment

i Only connect units when it is safe to do so and when there is no risk of damage or harm to the surroundings

i If it is not 100% clear from the unit data sheet that such connections can be safely made or if you are in any doubt, always get a suitably qualified person (eg the manufacturer) to ver-ify that the setup is safe

i Only connect peripheral units (eg computer, monitor, printer) that conform at least to the requirements set out in IEC 60950-1 (EN 60950-1)

Connecting the unit to the computer

NOTICEDamage to the sensorThe interior parts of the sensor can be damaged by mechanical forces i Do not drop the sensor i Do not subject the sensor to any pressure

i Do not fold, clamp or crush the cable i Do not carry the sensor by the cable

i Connect the sensor USB connector to a free socket on the computer

7.2 Install driver(s)The drivers for the DR 7 NDT are automatically installed with the installation of D-Tect (from ver-sion 95) i Connect the sensor USB connector to a free socket on the computer

The unit is initialised automatically

The acquisition modes listed are standard con-figurations The acquisition modes can be adapted, depending on requirements and appli-cationDepending on the X-ray source and the record-ing conditions, the basis spatial resolution can change

10.1 Taking an X-ray imageX-ray images with the DR 7 NDT are generated using multiple integration Multiple integration produces a low SNR (signal to noise ratio)Check before every use:

– The sensor and cable are not damaged – The sensor and cable have been cleaned

NOTICESensor damage and deterioration of the image quality resulting from high exposure values in the free beam path i With exposure values > 70 kV, protect the sensor accordingly

i Comply with the maximum total dos-age of 20 Gy

i Place the sensor i Start the computer i Start the imaging software i Select the project i Change to X-ray module i Select the desired acquisition mode

10 Operation

NOTICEDamage to the sensorThe interior parts of the sensor can be damaged by mechanical forces i Do not drop the sensor i Do not subject the sensor to any pressure

i Do not fold, clamp or crush the cable i Do not carry the sensor by the cable

CAUTIONA damaged sensor can result in the issue of materials which damage health i Check the sensor and cable for dam-age before every use

i Do not use a damaged sensor

NOTICEShort circuit due to the build up of condensationStrong temperature fluctuations can damage the unit i Only commission the unit once it has warmed up to room temperature

i Do not subject the unit to strong tem-perature differences (heating max 3 °C/min) Exception: short-term use of the sensor at a temperature of up to 45 °C This could produced in-creased levels of inherent noise in the image

If DR 7 NDT is operated with D-Tect, you can generate X-ray images in the following acquisi-tion modes:

– NDT high (19 µm) – NDT Standard (19 µm) – NDT fast/binning (38 µm)

The transmission time takes a few seconds de-pending on the setting
